Hello
I am a singer/song writer, with a song I have written over 16 years ago that you may be interested in using to highlight or help raise awareness about depression.
It was a song I have written to help me externalise the demons I have to battle with.
It is one of many such songs I have written to help me cope with my depression. I don't believe I have any serious depression, just your average type that one may easily, (or not), find a road out of.
But my two teenage daughters are struggling, with medication, to find a way forward from their unhappiness.
My brother has had severe depression and has to take a constant cocktail of drugs to keep himself in a happy state.
And so the list goes on.
It is a song that talks about the horrible things that go through my mind, what I believe causes the horrible downward spiral, and what I believe one must do to find a way out.
Yours sincerely,
Tyke Talty

Dear Tyke Talty
Thank you for your post and welcome to Beyond Blue. What a wonderful talent to be able to express your pain in song. I relate to songs and poetry (same really) on subjects that describe feelings or emotions generally. These songs touch my innermost being and give me a vehicle to sing out my pain and frustration. One of my favourite song writers is John Denver. He is usually written off as a C&W writer/singer but the majority of his songs are so poignant. In an earlier age he would be considered a writer of protest songs as that is the point of so many of his songs.
Do members of your family receive counselling as well as taking medication? It's hard enough managing our own depression. With two teenagers to care for with the same problem must cause some problems. Have either of your daughters ever contacted Kids Helpline? This is specifically for people aged up to 25. There is information specific to their needs on this web site as well as information for parents. Kids Helpline also has phone/internet/email counselling. www.kidshelpline.com.au
Your daughters could also look at the youth Beyond Blue web site. www.youthbeyondblue.com Again lots of information for them there.
Thanks again for your post. I hope you write in again.
Mary

Hi Tyke, welcome to the forums. This is a peer support space for discussing issues related to living with depression and anxiety, so I hope you'll stay around to get some support in this area if you need it.
We can't share songs on the forums, although you'd be most welcome to post lyrics in our poetry thread.
