A-MAZE-ING

A couple of days ago someone gave me a postcard of an English hedge maze taken from above. It occurred to me that this was a symbolic start to my new year. When you are in a maze all you can do is wander around looking for landmarks to find your way out. No doubt my year will see plenty of false starts, and no doubt I will spend plenty of time agonising over my loss of way, but I am hoping that there will be a bit of progress too, and that sometimes I can sit on the seats provided and reflect on life. I wonder whether anyone else thinks of their mental health journey in terms of a maze. It is alive, it is a constant puzzle, and there are any number of directions to try.

Maybe you don't identify with me at all - but I can still identify with you. Best wishes for your new year however you see it.

Dear Ellu

I think that is a fantastic image - even if only because it implies that somewhere there's a end to the journey -sigh

I guess I might think of my eternal recovery as a maze, though one at night. That's not all bad, I've found there are members of these threads who each hold a candle illuminating a scrap of the way.

Resting on those provided seats sounds wonderful, reminding me it is not a race, urgency is not all

Thank you

Hi Ellu,

I never though of our mental health conditions as a maze but when you put it that way, it sure does make sense. Every one here is on a jounrey to recovery of some sort and I think it is very likened to a maze as you said.. you wander around at time, looking and hoping and you may stumble and get "lost" here and there but I think if you can use each stumble as growth you are well on your way to recovery.

All we can do everyday whilst wandering is try to smile and be positive as much as possible.

My best,

Jay
