Hello Grace and welcome.

It is exhausting when your mind is racing. I'm glad you reached out for support.

Do you feel able to explain a little more about what you're experiencing? It will help others to offer advice that is more relevant to you than general.

You said you think about everything over and over. This can describe many situations for example

  • dealing with flashbacks and memories
  • analysing everything you do endlessly. Breaking down the events and considering what ifs.
  • Recurring thoughts of suicide are another possibility

Regardless of what kind of thoughts... If they are distressing you it is time to see a medical professional. Have you sought help previously?

If the thoughts are overwhelming tonight please consider phoning the help lines or even going to the hospital if you find you are very distressed and unable to cope.

Otherwise I hope you are able to keep writing.

This is why we have anxiety. Have you read the forum self help tips for managing anxiety? They do help, but they require constant practice and constant improvement on your own part. When you can get in control, it's basically because you are able to get back into the present moment and stop arguing and worrying in your head about the past and the future.

I absolutely have issues with going over bad memories (conversations during which I got trampled upon by the other person who had more power in the relationship and whose intent it was to make sure this status quo remained) over and over in my head. Intrusive thoughts that impact to varying degrees upon my ability to function day to day. Lately I have even been talking out loud to myself when I am out in public. It sucks.

grace, I can relate a lot to overthinking and my brain churns over thoughts and memories like a washing machine with each thought entangled in another.

nat has some good suggestions. sometimes I write down everything that I am overthinking and sometimes it helps me from ruminating . I have also tried counting slowly to 100 and focus on that.
