Im extremely vaccine hesitant for the covid vaccines.
I have so many concerns about them. Will i die from having it? Will i have a massive allergic reaction? Will it affect my fertility? Will it make me permanently disabled?
Ive asked my doctor all these questions and hes tried to reassure me that im more likely to die from covid if i get sick with it instead of the vaccine but it doesnt settle that anxiety, that feeling like im on the verge of a panick attack!
I have bad asthma, when ever i do get sick it ends up as bad bronchitis and has lead to pneumonia a couple times. Im of Aboriginal background. I work in aged care. So pretty much tick everything, that i need to have it.
Im booked in for the pfizer vaccine on monday and i just feel like im signing my own death certificate. Im tempted to write a will and have it legally signed or whatever you have to do before i have this vaccine. Im already planning on posting to my facebook page "if i die, someone please make sure my son goes to my mum or sister and not someone hes never met(his father)".
I havent felt the fight or flight response so severely in myself before and its like my mind is in conflict with itself! I havent been about to stop shaking since i booked it in earlier this week.
I know i should have it for so many reasons, but im scared to death of having it! And nothing my doctor has said has helped to ease those feelings. Right now i feel like they would have to knock me out to have it!
I have a cousin and a couple friends who feel the exact same too so i know its not just me with these feelings!
Its so distressing.

Hello MissJ94
I understand your thoughts on vaccines as most people are also hesitant too. I am of Scandinavian background and have had chronic anxiety since 1983 which made me overthink the vaccine a lot. I just had my first dose a few weeks ago and am still alive and doing well.
I do know that taking an aspirin has more side effects than the vaccine..... seriously...it does
I really liked when you mentioned 'Im booked in for the pfizer vaccine on monday' You are a legend MissJ94 🙂
Really good to have you as part of the forum family...(any questions are always welcome)
my kind thoughts
Paul

Hi MissJ94
You will be fine. The vaccination is much much safer than risking this virus.
I am old enough to remember when kids were crippled from polio and whooping cough. The vaccinations stopped those terrible diseases.
This COVID19 is a nasty disease. You don't want to catch it or give it to anyone else.
Please have the jab. It will keep you safe from terrible illness. Modern medicine is amazing.
It won't have any terrible effects on you. It will help keep you safe.
Cheers 🙂

Hi. I will be getting my first shot on the weekend... there are also lots of people I know and in my family that have already had the shot and are OK. In my situation... it was suggested I ring the national helpline (?) about which medication to take and was able to speak with a clinician. With the stories that go around, it is natural to be concerned and unsure and nervous.
There are FAQ pages about the vaccine. I suspect these would not ease your concern. Except that if what Paul said about aspirin then ... *surprised look*
Listening to you,

Hi MissJ94
I understand your anxiety, as I was initially unsure myself. I did a lot of research and spoke to my GP and then went ahead and had the Pfizer 2 weeks ago.
The state run clinic I attended was very well run. The nurse who gave me the shot explained the process, potential side effects and answered my questions. Following the shot I was guided to an observation room under the care of medical personnel. After 15 minutes I went home.
My arm was sore for 24 hours following the jab and that was the only side effect that I experienced.
However, something unexpected happened. I felt a huge sense of relief—like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. I say unexpected because I haven’t felt particularly worried about catching Covid but I guess in my subconscious I was.
My second shot is next week and I can’t wait. To have maximum protection from this illness is both an amazing gift and a blessing.
Think of all the vaccines you have had in your lifetime already—without ever knowing the brand or dwelling on the very small possibility of an adverse reaction. Vaccines save lives and all the studies show the Covid vaccines to be both safe and effective.
I encourage you to push through and protect yourself.
Kind thoughts to you

Miss J94
You won't die from the Pfizer vaccine but you have a good chance of dying from the Covid virus.
Look at all the terrible numbers of people dying overseas from the virus. They weren't vaccinated.
Please don't risk catching this and ending up in ICU on a ventilator!
Please go and have the shot. Takes a moment and keeps you and your loved ones safe.
Cheers.

MissJ
thanks for being so honest and I know many people of all ages that are anxious.
I have had moth jabs with AZ and had no side effects. I know a young person in his early 30s who had first vaccination with AZ and another person in her late 39s sho has had 2 Pfizer and had no side effects.
I realise that many here can say they are ok after vaccination but you may still be anxious.
take care .

Hi MissJ94,
I understand your anxiety…….the way I have made my decision around getting the Pfizer vaccine is
I am “ choosing “ to learn from the ones who have gone before us……. I’ll be getting the Pfizer vaccine as soon as I’m eligible…
Back in the polio days some people were unlucky to not receive the polio vaccine, to this day there are polio survivors………. But because they contracted polio the after effects of the virus greatly impacts their lives….. the after effects are damaging! If they were lucky enough to have had the vaccine they wouldn’t have had such a harder physical life that they have now……
we don’t know what the after effects will be from contracting the coronavirus….
back in the polio days people too were hesitant in having the vaccine but in time they received their vaccine, polio today has been eradicated from most of the world….. thanks to the vaccine…….
Good on you for booking in…… let’s learn from the ones who have gone before us 💪😊

Hello again MissJ94
excuse I for butting in here for a moment....
The brand of the vaccine isnt relevant to your thread as Astra Zeneca is just as effective as Pfizer. I am sure that members are aware that all of the vaccines help us from contracting Covid
Good on you for working in aged care.....another huge reason for having the vaccine 😊👌
