Up and down anxiety - managing work

Lone

I have really been struggling with anxiety lately and rely on medication to get me through most days. I start the day with a panic attack and the mornings are generally worse than the evening. Due to my anxiety I have lost confidence in my ability to do my job even though I work hard because I always think the worst. I have two part time jobs and and so this has made everything incredibly challenging. Does anyone have an tips in managing work and anxiety

Hi Lone,

I'm sorry to hear you're struggling. I can relate to what you're going through.

I'm on medication, am highly anxious and get panic attacks, but because I pressure myself so much I also do well at work. It is very intense and exhausting though.

Do you get on well with your supervisor? If you do, maybe you can ask for feedback about your performance.

Do you get positive feedback from others? Keep a record of those messages and emails so you can reread them when you're particularly anxious.

My psychologist always points out that other people usually see us in a different light than how we see ourselves (usually much more positive, we are our own worst critics, even more so because of our anxiety).

Sometimes it helps me to observe others and their works and notice that they are not perfect either.

When I feel my anxiety increasing at work, I try to get some fresh air or even just go to the bathroom to do some deep breathing.

Just some ideas that help me sometimes and that you might want to try.

Hang in there.

Thanks for your post. On that point my colleague told me today that I am do a good job so yes I think the way we see ourselves is different sometimes. I am going to try and go into work tomorrow with a more relaxed attitude, that I can only do what I can do and that is good enough,
