Hi there Markymark 313
Sorry to hear you are struggling with long term anxiety, it is great to hear that you are seeking to find some evidence informed treatments, there has been a lot of research around the efficacy of rTMS for the treatment of mood disorders, you may want to visit the following page
https://www.ranzcp.org/news-policy/policy-and-advocacy/position-statements/repetitive-transcranial-magnetic-stimulation
As for the cost its great news that from 1 November 2021, it will be will be listed on the MBS (Medicare), for the delivery of an initial course of rTMS treatment of up to 35 sessions by a psychiatrist with appropriate training.
Also I encourage you to keep up working with your GP and mental health provider around supporting you with strategies for managing your mood and anxiety.
If you need support you can call our beyond blue support service on 1300 22 4636.
Also remember to practice mindfulness and do some self care.
Coach Craig.

I’m having TMS atm, previously had it 8 months ago, it works but hasn’t lasted well for me. This time we are taking a different tack so fingers crossed. As an inpatient, mine is fully covered by Medicare and my private health cover, just a $500 admission excess. As an outpatient, it was $190 per session (20 seems to be common) so expensive. One positive side effect was that it greatly improved my mental clarity … I could go to the supermarket and not just know what was in the fridge & pantry at home, but I knew where I’d parked my car. Wasn’t specifically conscious of these failings until they disappeared. Lots of other “small” mental function improvements also, generally made me feel like I was starting to function “normally” despite still being DAS (before a good recovery was made). Good luck.
