This is my anxiety awareness film

This is my anxiety awareness film.

I used to suffer from an anxiety disorder for a large portion of high school, and this film is a personal account of my road to mental health. I have made this film in hope that it helps to guide others who are still suffering from anxiety, encouraging them to seek help. I hope that perhaps it can also help people to identify feelings of anxiety that they do not know are even there. So here is my Year 12 film project, which is designed and formatted as a web advertisement to be played before YouTube/ web portal videos (theoretically). I hope you enjoy it.

If you have any questions about my experiences with anxiety, don't hesitate to ask. I'm glad to answer and help in whatever way I can. Stay safe.

Hi Maccamuffin,  Welcome to Beyond Blue forums.

I'll get to your film shortly. I'm a 59yo male that had anxiety as a teen then it climaxed at 31yo in a workplace environment. I took medication and sought therapy. The meds lasted 12 years and the relaxation techniques lasted 25 years. At the end ...a few years ago, I could safely say my anxiety was "at rest".

Since April 2014 I started posting to this forum. Apart from answering others threads and issues I've tried to send out messages in the form of "essays" to spread my experience and my theories. Arond 35 essays I think now.

But nothing, absolutely nothing compares with the impact your film has had on me. I can only imagine someone else that has just recently been diagnosed with anxiety, watching this film and taking that first necessary step towards recovery.

Congratulations. Well done.

Hi Maccamuffin,

Thank you so very much for sharing your story and this film with everyone here at Beyond Blue and welcome to the community here.

I agree with White Knight, your film makes quite an impact. You should be very proud of your achievement. I am sure so many people will benefit from it.

If you have the time to flick through the different posts here, you will see that there are many people suffering from various forms of mental health concerns.

There is a young guy goes by Liam C here on the forum, he suffers from anxiety. I hope that he will see this film you have made and will be encouraged by it. I will try to get in touch with him and point him in the right direction. (I am not very good with understanding computers, so hope I can organise that for him!)

I realise that Anxiety is/has been an issue for you. A film like yours on bullying would be so very beneficial for so many people! Maybe that could be your next project!

Thank you once again for sharing your story and your work.

Cheers to you from Mrs. Dools

dear Maccamuffin, I would like to welcome you to the site but you are now already part of it, and have given yourself an introduction that is well deserved recognition, because the pressures of being in year 12 are enormous, even though it's a long time since I was doing it, as I'm a 60 year old chap, and often reply to young people going through exactly what you are, so you should be congratulated and deserve a pat on your back.

I believe that you are the first person to present a tape that the Beyond Blue forum has allowed to be shown to many of us on this forum, so that's a feather in your cap.

What you have shown is that the need for someone to be able to click with their counsellor, psychologist or therapist is so important, but I haven't mentioned any psychiatrist, simply because that relationship is based on prescribing medication and it's much more a formal session with them.

The important issue here is that you understood that you needed help and didn't stay in denial which a lot of people do, thinking that it would get better soon, but it doesn't, it just becomes a deeper and worse situation.

So well done and good luck with your study. Geoff.

Hi Maccamuffin,

Welcome to the forums. It is great to hear stories of recovery especially from young people. You have made a very impressive media presentation on your experience.

Hopefully many people will see it and realize that they are suffering from unnecessary anxiety and seek the help that they need.

Grateful.

Hi Maccamuffin,

Words do not do that video as much justice as it deserves. It was wonderful. I finished year 12 several years ago and its so satisfying to see pioneers like yourself breaking down the mental health stigma that has pervaded for years. Well done mate.
