So worried about tooth extraction tomorrow

Guest_1573

Hi

I have to have an impacted wisdom tooth removed tomorrow. In a way I am hoping it is a good thing as I am in a lot of pain in the ear, throat and jaw region and the dentist thinks this tooth is the problem. It is half impacted and the OPG shows it is growing into my jaw!

I am very scared. The dentist has already warned me that she may not be able to get it out. In which case I will have to go to hospital and have it out under general.

I am also scared as even if she can get it out what if my symptoms remain? As per my other posts I have been suffering a lot of pain in the last few months and no doctor/chiro/physio can figure it out. I am feeling very down and very disillusioned with everything!

Thanks for reading .

Hey PM..no worries at all and great to have you as part of the Beyond Blue family too!

You are spot on! My doc mentioned that there is no need for a GA with wisdom tooth extraction when low dose IV (Intravenous method of sedation) are available..Especially when we can walk out of the surgery afterwards 🙂

my kind thoughts

Paul

Hi PM,

Wishing you the best of luck for April 20! How are you feeling about the appointment being then?

Here for you!

Hi

Thanks for your response! I have a consult with SA Dental this Wednesday and they think they will schedule it for the following week as they are classing it urgent. Going thru these guys will only cost me around $100. I will be i chair and sedated. My darling Aunty has already said she will take me and pick me up. She is like my best friend also. Thanks for your concern! xx

Hi Panicmerchant!

That's great to hear, how did the consultation go? That is great that they are classing it as urgent and $100 especially for dental work is a great price! I'm so glad you have your Aunty, it sounds like she is a great support!

Wisdom teeth are usually the most problematic, I had to have one extracted, it was constantly painful and caused me a lot of discomfort while it was growing.

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you're in lots of pain. I've already had 2 wisdom teeth removed, first one the doc's gave me a script to get pills that'll knock me out (had to take it 3 hours before surgery so it'd be in full effect). I couldn't feel anything except dizzy (due to meds doc gave me). When the tooth is extracted and after numbing/pills has worn off, you'll feel sore in the jaw & also area will bleed. They'll give you instructions on how to care for the sore area: tissues covering the spot for at least 24 hours to stop bleeding (I recommend having an old towel on top of your pillow in case it bleeds during the night), only eat soft foods for first 2-3 days, rinse mouth out with salty water after eating etc. Also be careful when brushing your teeth, area will be very tender and toothpaste will irritate it a bit/avoid it till the site has fully healed.

2nd wisdom tooth I had pulled I didn't get knocked out this time, they gave me the numbing stuff at dentist before surgery so still couldn't feel it happening, unfortunately it means constantly needing to spit heaps into a bowl as it felt weird 🙄 same instructions as 1st time though. My 3rd one is currently trying to grow thru gums now so will be booking another appt soonish

Hello Guest, I do know of 2 people who had over symptoms  that were created from a bad tooth and once it was removed these cleared up very quickly.

Good luck, because most of us don't like going to the dentist.

Wisdom teeth are usually the most problematic, I had to have one extracted, it was constantly painful and caused me a lot of discomfort while it was growing. Then when it grew, it just bothered me. My doctor also warned me that the removal may not be easy, because the roots of the teeth were growing in different directions, but all went well! But my brother was less lucky, another doc didn`t fully extract his wisdom tooth and because of this, a small piece of the root was left in his jaw… As you understand, this place was inflamed and he had to undergo a more serious surgery.

Hi there - I'm sorry to hear that you're going through such an anxious time. It's understandable to feel scared and overwhelmed in this situation.

It's important to remember that many people have wisdom teeth removed, and it's a relatively standard procedure. It's also important to note that even if the tooth is successfully removed, it is possible that your symptoms may remain. However, it's essential to stay positive and remain hopeful. I hope you can find comfort in knowing that you're not alone in this situation and there are people here to support you.
