Its nearly 5am i have too many thoughts going on what will today bring? Im paranoid everywhere i go Im contemplating on whether i should skip class.. Only because i hate getting up doing group discussions and being put on the spotlight i hope no one sees how nervous i get or even the panic attacks appear randomly i feel like im battling with my own demons they appear to surround me everywhere i go like a sudden strike someone is trying to rob me. Im having weird flashbacks from my childhood i never asked my brain to collect these memories i wanted them to go away

Hi Keeyana,

Welcome to the Community here at Beyond Blue.

If you don't mind me asking you a few questions, are you at school or Uni?

Have you been to talk to a Dr. about how you are feeling?

Is there a counsellor/School Chaplain/Teacher you can talk with regarding how you are feeling?

This Beyond Blue site has a lot of information regarding anxiety/stress/depression. You can also use the Chat line to talk directly to people who will be able to make suggestions on where you can receive help in your own area.

Have a look at the SLEEP thread and see if some of the suggestions made there can help you to relieve some of your anxiety in the evenings so you can sleep better.

Weird flashbacks from previous unpleasant events happens to us all at one time or another I am sure.

The thing for me is to realise they are only thoughts. They can be hurtful and disturbing, but I can tell myself that I accept those thoughts and try to move on to more pleasant thoughts.

We can not change what has happened in the past. I don't know that we can ever totally forget, but we can learn to lessen the impact of those thoughts.

Do you have friends in class whom you can talk to about your nervousness when needing to get up and talk? Maybe some of them have issues too. They may be able to tell you how they cope.

I don't want to bombard you with too much right now! Hope some of this helps.

Cheerio for now from Mrs. Dools

Hi Keeyana,

Thanks for reaching out to us. I'm sorry that you're having sleepless nights and lots of anxiety. It sounds like they are very difficult to deal with. I'm wondering if you've told anyone about what you're going through? If you're at school or uni (which I'm assuming you are) they often have lots of support services in place; this can be super helpful especially with group assignments. Them knowing that you have anxiety means that they can help you out and be aware of it when you are having a panic attack.

I'm sorry that you're having weird flashbacks from your childhood. Unfortunately we don't get to 'pick and choose' which memories we keep and pop up - if only! The good thing though is that you still have lots of control over them; helping to manage the anxiety and the fears surrounding your flashbacks can help them have less impact and power of you.

If you can, reach out to someone - there are lots of great skills that you can learn when you're starting to feel super anxious to help keep you calm, and learning how to manage the flashbacks and panic attacks will help too.
