Hi, Me again, I was wondering if anybody can help/advise etc, I'm having problems sleeping I'm having a difficult time at work and have a lot going on, further have had some family problems with ill health in the last few months, its nearly like I'm scared when nightfall's as it will get closer to bedtime and it reminds me of how bad I will feel the next morning with little or no sleep, I'm sleeping in the other room from my girlfriend so she can get a good nites sleep also, I'm trying all sorts of sleeping tablets to which I can buy from the chemist, it really is getting me down and I dont want to plan anything as I cannot gauge how I will feel about it when it comes to it, this morning I told my boss I would have to work from home as I have went 2 nites with little or no sleep, I believe I do have some aniexty issues due to work stress and my family ill health issue, but I just cant really put a finger on the real problem, I'm writing this from my home office and its so difficult to keep going when I feel so tired and agitated all the time by not having a goods nites sleep, I'm really hopeful somebody can help me, thanks in advance for any help anybody can give me

Hi Tim,

You similar to me with your sleeping problems, I'm under a lot of stress, as I don't have a job and I have bills to pay.

I have struggled with sleeping issues all my life, I only ever took sleeping pills once, I feel they don't really help me. I find trying to relax as much as possible one hour before you go to bed, like reading a book, turn off all electronic devices, listening too relaxing music can help.

The mind can be our own worst enemy, even if you are stressed, try and go out for a walk and exercise to make your body feel good, eat well and try and engage in possible conversation to put your mind off stress and your problems, even watch a comedy to get a laugh to be in a happy frame of mind.

If, all these problems persist, see a counsellor or talk to a professional to help you other than a GP, maybe you have sleep apnea and need to spend a few nights in a sleep clinic to get your sleep patterns back and manage your stress.

I also find having a sleepy time cup of tea before bed can be relaxing.

I hope I helped you.

Take Care

Hi Touille, thank you for your reply, I do get normal nites of sleep so I don't think its sleep apnea more so its stress from work causing anxiety I believe, I have been to GP and psychologist, the GP started me on Antidepressants as I was really low but I found they did not agree with me, the psychologist has said that I most probably have a general anxiety disorder, I will try the things you have said in your reply, I thank you very much for taking the time to reach out to me, and I hope in some way knowing that your not alone is helping you as well

Hi again Tim,

It's great to hear you do get some normal nights of sleep.

It has helped me to see others struggle with sleep as well, it would me better, if I was working, it wears me out and I get better sleep, I will find something eventually.

Your welcome and if you don't feel like taking pills, don't, they gave me headaches, I manage to cope without them. I also suggest perhaps going to a doctor who specializes in nutritional natural treatment, they cut a small sample of your hair, send it to a lab, this way they determine what vitamins you are lacking like zinc, vitamin b and your serotonin levels in the brain, which trigger bad anxiety and moods, than herbal drops are made and I did this in the past and it worked. I had lost my job my harassment, unfair dismissal, and was working in a refinery and my brain raced constantly, my body was full of aluminum, so the treatment from the GP helped me calm down. I'm just suggesting this option if you have constant problems continuously as anxiety takes a lot out of our bodies.

Anyway

Take Care and I hope you can sleep consistently better soon

thank you Touille, its really nice to hear from somebody taking time out of their own life to respond to me, I feel alone and in a bit of a dark place at present, its so difficult some days to cope with things as my job is very stressful and have people and projects that depend on me, I think I will go back to the GP again and speak to her about this continuation of problem, thank you again and if you want to chat at anytime, day or nite...... I will be hear to listen, ps mental health week on ABC is showing some very good programs this week all around mental health

Hi Tim,

It's good you are going to get help from a doctor.

Thanks for informing me about the Mental Health week, I noticed there are some interesting tv discussions on issues later on tv, my mother has bipolar disorder, so she can be very down and also bad paranoia.

You said you have projects to get done, I hope you take enough regular breaks so you don't get bogged down too much with stress. It is good you can work from home. I'm normally an outgoing person, but at the moment with no job and going through a bad relationship breakup, I can only handle small groups of people due to stress. So it's good you can manage your work environment to suit you.

Hey Tim,

I suffered with sleeping issues due to my mind overthinking things for quite a while, I would just lay in bed and irrationally worry about things. 1 thing that I found helped a lot was downloading an app on my phone with guided meditation i.e. breathing techniques to help you relax. And also playing some white noise or ocean sounds, something with a consistent rhythm can really help you drift off to sleep!

I hope this helps, I know what its like!
