Projecting into the future

I can’t stop ruminating about what is coming in the future, I am constantly on guard and worried. For example I worried the people at work will ask me to complete a task I don’t know how to do and I will be found out as useless. Does anyone know how to stop these thoughts?

Hi Lone,

I can absolutely relate to this and I know ruminating is so common.

For me personally, therapy has helped a lot in coping with this. Sometimes I've been able to just ''sit with that thought' so to speak, but other-times I have to work with it and challenge it.

As an example, if there's a task you don't know how to do - maybe you'll ask how to do it, or you'll see if there's someone else who has done the task before. The reality is, you will probably find that there's some way you can figure out how to do the task, no matter what sort of job that you have.

If your worst case scenario came true, what would happen then?

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but often when I play out these scenarios I'll find that I can actually cope with them. While I don't know you Lone, I imagine that you can probably cope with this too. Maybe you can find a little comfort in this and the thoughts can quieten a little.
