Hello,
I am a university graduate and I am about to go into my masters degree. I have had recent anxiety to the point I am unable to sleep, control my thoughts and I just want to cry and try and fix my problems then and there. I am unable to relax until the problems I am dreading are over and that can be assignments that are due in up to 8 weeks away. I am feeling very sick and ill and I dread EVERYTHING.
I have had alot go on in my family with members becoming very sick and hospitalized, my house is a mad house and I am unable to go to anyone I suffer from oesophageal reflux, meaning I get heartburn on a regular basis. I am not enjoying life at all and I am wondering if anyone has any good tips in being able to control my thoughts and learn how to be in the moment.

Dear Houston,
Welcome to Beyond Blue and well done for reaching out. Although I am sorry to hear that you are going through a tough time at the moment. Sometimes things can seem so overwhelming when we are looking at the big picture. I find life to be far more manageable when I break it down into smaller chunks.
I notice that you said you "Can't go to anyone" but I am wondering exactly what you mean by that? Is it family and friend that you don't feel you can go to? Maybe you could speak to your doctor about your anxiety, and maybe a counselor? Something to consider anyway.
In regards to the lots of different things happening, and to go back to my point of breaking things into smaller chunks; I find making lists to be helpful. It helps me to focus on just one task at a time, and to take things one day at a time. Making a list can be a great focus point, and a great help to stop all the multiples of thoughts racing around in your brain. Just do one task at a time, until it's done before moving onto the next thing. Even if that means, that things on your list are really simple like this
1. Have breakfast
2. Get Dressed
3. Write one paragraph, or one eighth of assignment (break it down into eight parts, given that it's due in eight weeks)
4. Send a text, or make a quick call to the sick family member, just to let them know you are thinking of them. This will help them to know they are cared for, and help you to know you are doing at least one small thing in caring for their health and wellbeing.
5. Brush hair
6. Brush teeth .......
So you hopefully can get my drift in how the list can be, yeah? It can be really simple things that can be ticked off and approached in small chunks of both time and thought.
Anyway, that's about all the advice I have for now. I hope that helps at least a little?
Take care, I'll be thinking of you. xo

Hi!
Agree with what Soberlicious96 has said.
I highly recommend seeing your GP as they will be able to help you with options.
To control my thoughts and be in the moment I meditate (its weird at first but does help after a while), I go for walks and focus on the things I can see/smell/touch/hear/feel etc or do something that involves my brain.
As hectic life can be - remember to take some time out for yourself (probably easier said then done), your mental health matters too!

I forgot to mention that I also used the '54321' Grounding Technique
basically its 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you hear, 2 you can smell and 1 nice thing about yourself.
