Nervousness 24/7

Lil_fitz

I have been struggling with anxiety since my father passed and even moreso recently as PND after my son was born.

I have anxiety feelings like I’m extremely nervous 24/7. My highs are really high and my lows are low. I just want to find a happy medium I am so over feeling like this ALL of the time 😞

I have been seeing a therapist every 3-4 weeks and he is reluctant to give me anything to try that may even out my moods.

I have made an appt with my GP for next week.
I guess my question is does anyone else constantly feel like this and what meds have helped? And do they take a while to work or does it kinda just happen?

Thank you

Hi there,

I don't know about meds as I have never been on them, but I found CBT with my psychologist was the best way to help my anxiety. Meds and CBT combined are often really effective and helpful at preventing relapse.

I would see what your GP says, they may prescribe you something.

Just wanted to say you aren't alone, and we are here. Write back if you need.

Stay strong,

Jaz.

Hi Lil_fitz Thank you for your post and welcome,

Sorry to hear what your going through, Finding a happy medium can be challenging but is worth it,

So glad to hear you are seeing someone I also struggle with my moods

to answer your question does anyone feel like this? Yes very often it comes and goes
I maintain stability through antidepressants they take some time to work and you may have to try several to find the one that works best for you

Medication is not always the answer its a band-aid on the wound but can help you through tough times
Therapy and treatment help me a lot especially CBT and DBT

I hope this helps

Hi Lil fitz,

Wellcome to our forums!

Im sorry to hear of your Dads passing that must be so difficult.

Im sorry you are experiencing anxiety and PND, I understand…. After the birth of my babies I suffered with Post natal anxiety it was really difficult, I also suffered with OCD.

I saw my gp when I first started to experience symptoms my gp put me on a antidepressant to help me to manage my anxiety we did a mental health plan together and this enabled me to see a clinical psychologist.

Because I was experiencing this after child birth I went to a perinatal clinic my clinical psychologist and psychologist both practiced out of the same clinic… I also did therapy for my OCD.

Maybe ask your gp if they know of any perinatal clinics in your area.

Ive now recovered.

I believe medication and therapy go hand in hand so if you are going on medication do therapy aswell so you can learn strategies for anxiety.

Medication can take up to 6 weeks to work.

Hang in there I understand it’s really difficult to be a mum and also trying to manage your anxiety.

Im here to chat

Hi Lil_fitz,

Welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about your anxiety. As I know, having highs and lows are not unusual, however everyone is unique and the medication useful to someone else may not be useful to you, it might not be a very good idea to do the self-medicating.

As you're seeing your GP next week, if you think your current therapist is not caring or not helping, you can ask your GP to refer a new one, by telling him/her more details about your needs and expectation.
