Hi Hodges. I have never had a panic attack myself but my niece had some very severe ones and ended up in hospital. She has been free of panic attacks for a couple of years and is doing very well. So in answer to your question you can become free of them. It is important to get help Medication can help you cope and a councellor can help you identify what some of you triggers and work out strategies to manage. This takes time but over time you will gain confidence in being able to manage the panic attacks and eventually stop having them.

It will get better but don't be afraid to ask for the help and support you need so you can cope

Hi Hodges

I first experienced panic attacks 20 years ago and have got them generally under control these days. I do need medication but you certainly need a psychiatrist to prescribe them as they are tightly controlled. A combination of medication and CBT is what I recommend and there are specific pyschologists that teach breathing and other methods to control panic. Meditation is also helpful but it is not everybodys cup of tea. I find it useful to lower the overall state of anxiety my mind is in. Good luck on Tuesday

dear Hodge, panic attacks can be controlled, however you need to find what has caused these panic attacks and then discuss them with your psychologist, however with any type of depression, unfortunately it may take time to be able to learn how to stop them, and please don't be too tough on yourself, because with depression we actually learn something each day which other people who haven't had it don't, however we would rather not be succumbed to this horrible illness.

These attacks can happen without warning and could be related to you having something medically wrong with yourself, and I wonder if they actually wake you when you are asleep, especially by sweating.

Everybody could have different reactions when they have a panic attack and it depends on what situation you are in, so again mention these to your psychologist, as I would also do with your doctor who may want to medicate you to help you, which I hope will happen. Geoff.
