hello im new on here but have suffered GAD and depression for 20 years now aged 70 I want to feel happier.

I want to know do others spend hours in bed and suffer nausea . Illness worries me, does any one else suffer this way or am I just being silly.I also suffer with agraphobia and find it very difficult to leave home even with my husband , who I am afraid does not understand why am am the way I am , he is good to me but allows me to lay in bed when I know I should be up doing things. Just to know if others suffer the same way will; make me feel so much better, thank you for your time.

Hi hoya,

Firstly, welcome to the forums.

My GAD is a little different, I tend to want to stay out of the house rather than be in it, I need the comfort of being around many people which seems to alleviate my anxiety, everyone has it differently but I know many people who stay in their houses as it is their safe space and they feel the most comfortable there which also isn't that wrong either. I am sure others will post that have similar tendencies with their mental health but I just wanted to reach out and say its perfectly fine how you take your anxiety in and I can also under the nausea that goes with it... it seems health anxiety and GAD go hand in hand I have come to realise.

Do you do anything (hobbies) that takes you mind of the GAD and depression?

My best for you,

Jay

hello Hoya, the understanding of what depression is has changed a great deal over 20 years, especially for people who are in their 70's, (I'm 62) when years ago it was always taboo and were told to 'get over it', but now it's a daily conversation, but this still doesn't mean that you able to understand it, and actually it's the same for everyone.
The power that this illness has is to make people want to stay in bed, simply because it's a great place to hide and let the world go on without your presence and this will create agoraphobia, which is a very common type of phobia and related to anxiety.
Would it be possible for to google 'desensitization', because it's a way for you to slowly work your way out of bed and then possibly out of the house, because it would be a good idea for to visit your doctor and then to see a psychologist, this is something that you maybe afraid of, but with desensitization you maybe able to stretch that bit further and get the help you need. Hi Hoya,

Thanks for replying.

I think it's great that you keep trying and you seem to have this positivity shining through your posts even though it may not feel like it... the nausea is hard I know because i get it as well, maybe not the same degree but I know the feeling and it makes me want to stay in bed too. Do you get out in the garden much, I feel that would ease some of the symptoms?

My best,

Jay
