GAD Questions..

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone with GAD has had any problems with GAD affecting them in everything they do in daily life such as in relationships, work or doubting if you can learn or do something etc..

How have you gone by managing this in your life so far?

Yes..in the past.

What worked for me was seeing a psychologist. I was then able to learn strategies to cope with my anxiety and now I barely experience it anymore. The methods I learnt are almost automatic now - I don't have to even think about it. Is this something you would be open to?

I've seen a psychologist is the past and have some understanding on CBT etc. I haven't had any issues anxiety related for ages but still ruminate regarding how to manage this condition within a relationship since the last one I had 3 years ago ended because I had constant thoughts to break-up after I struggled to accept things my ex wanted which got me upset.

Hi there

Yes. GAD tends to weave its way through everything. There are definitely strategies you can learn to manage it though. How would you feel about seeing a professional again for a retune? Keeping things open and honest with your partner about where you’re at may be helpful too.

Other things that some people find helpful are meditation, yoga, healthy eating, exercise, journaling… you could give those a go and see what works for you.

I will eventually see a psychologist again after these lockdowns end. I find that if I live my life the way I know I have better gripe on my GAD condition. But let's say if I decided to move my life in another direction GAD may eventually find its way back and without fully knowing how to cope well makes life harder. What I find is whenever the goings get tough I always try to find away to remove the problem or try to avoid it entirely..😔

I experience that sometimes too with my partner, it is called "relationship anxiety" and it is quite common. It is probably exacerbated by your GAD. Possibly seeing your psychologist again may help you work through your anxiety surrounding break-ups and partnerships. If you haven't been in a while it can be refreshing too and help to ground yourself.

Please take care,

Jaz.
