Ex-forces looking for advice

Hi all, just joined.

I'm 32 and am looking for recommendations for a referral to get screened for ADHD.

I'm ex-ADF and took advantage of psychology services when I was in, which had good results regarding my self esteem and anxiety. My psych at the time suggested that my distracted nature, and inability to concentrate on study could be attributed to my anxiety and we used exercises and worked at it from that angle. It was successful in helping me relax but not necessarily with my concentration skills.

Now that I'm out the contributing factors have reduced significantly and I still have trouble concentrating and keeping on self-motivated tasks, whether it be for hobbies or study.

I'm unsure of where to go to proceed further. Any help or advice is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Aaron.

Dear Aaron~

Welcome here to the Forum. I've no short cuts to offer, an extended consultation with a GP, setting out your problems in detail and asking to be tested, perhaps by a psychologist or psychiatrist might be the way to go. Takes time, plus trial and error I'm afraid.

That being said I've an anxiety condition, and that , with various other things had made my ability to concentrate and stick to a task very difficult in the past. In fact I could no longer read for enjoyment and basically had to start again.

Due the the similarity in symptoms I'm unsure how simple diagnosis will be. Please let us know how you get on
