Disappearing

Is it normal wanting to disappear? I live with my brother and sister-in-law and I feel like I don’t want to live with them anymore. But I’m not able to, as I’m suffering from early stages of alzheimers. I recently been diagnosed with this condition. It can be a bit hard at times, especially when I can’t cope with this

Dear SilvaLady,
I believe alot of people have the feeling of wanting to disappear.
But it all depends on their circumstances and if they meant entirely.
I am sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis. It must be difficult to process. This maybe evoking anxiety in you. Or other strong emotions. I believe that is valid. You want to get away,but can’t leave. A positive is that your family is there to support you. But I can empathise with wanting to get out of somewhere but your options are very limited.
If you want to answer, can I ask if anything else is bothering you that you want to leave? Are you able to deal with your diagnosis fully yet? I only ask,as with every diagnosis there is alot to comprehend and what that means for your life now. Mostly it means change. And change can be overwhelming and scary.

Hi SilvaLady,
Really sorry to hear about the challenges you are going through. Sometimes when life gets hard or when life feels too heavy, it's natural to have feelings of running away or disappearing.
It's good to hear you have family support. If I may ask and if you feel like sharing, is there anything that's making you feel uncomfortable living with them? Seems like your brother and SIL are caring people.
The other alternative is, if you are able to, you can live somewhere close to them instead of living in the same house. That way you can get support when needed and also maintain good relations with them.
Have you spoken to a therapist? Although it is normal to think that way, it also depends how often you are thinking of disappearing. If it is multiple times during the day, then it is definitely better to seek help and speak to a professional as there might be more going on with your mental health than you realize.

- Dear HappyLife, thank you for replying. Yes I’m seeing a psychologist and I will address this with him, when I see him. I’m grateful to my brother and sister-in-law for their help and support. I just wanted to check in with someone to get some extra support. At this stage I’m not able to live on my own due to my disability and mental health. I usually can cope, but sometimes it just gets too much. Thank you again for your support and advice.
