Hey everyone, I’m new to this forum and I’m unsure on what to really say. I’ve never reached out or really talked to anyone about anxiety before. I guess I will start by saying that I’ve been struggling quite a lot lately to even do the easier tasks, it’s hard to get out of bed and get motivated to do things. I feel so alone and sad. It’s like everyone around me is happy and getting on in life and I’m just stuck at this one spot and can’t move, does anyone else feel like this? I thought I should come on here and reach out just to have a chat and seek help. How do I get out of this pit of aloneness and depression?

Hi Heidi_1,
Welcome to the forums. I hope you've found it easy to join and are able to learn or contribute to other sections. Its great that you're reaching out for the first time.
I know feeling stuck in life is difficult and that can definitely affect our motivation to do simple things like get out bed or even personal hygiene. It is important to recognise that if you're feeling this way for extended periods of time that it is important to reach out like you have. I have personally struggled with major depressive disorder for the last ten years. I know it can be very discouraging when you see others enjoying life but things for you feel stuck. But fortunately there are definitely ways out and things we can do to also achieve that happiness. Firstly you might consider talking to a professional like your GP or a psychologist. They have alot of experience in this area and have helped many in our situation.
In the meantime it is important to stay hopeful and remind yourself that things won't be this way forever. When I first started out with depression and anxiety I found it helpful to read up on it as much as I could. I also found it helpful to stay on top of things such as exercise, routine and social activity. These play a big role in our day to day motivation. If you want to do some reading there are some good resources on this website.
Here is a simple brochure that goes through some basics: https://www.beyondblue.org.au/docs/default-source/resources/bl0804-understanding-anxiety-and-depress...
Please feel free to post any questions or updates here. Hope this helps a bit.

Hey Heidi_1,
I am sorry you are going through this, it must be really hard for you. Good on you for reaching out, that is a hard but great first step to take. I felt that way until I asked for help. Have you spoken to your family or your doctor about this? Seeing a mental health professional really helped me to put my anxiety into remission. You can do it too, even though it might seem dark right now.
I am always here if you need to talk,
Jaz xx

Hey Heidi_1,
You've taken an amazing and incredibly brave step by coming here to reach out to people, it's a massive thing and you should be proud of yourself for doing so.
I have also found myself over the last year feeling incredibly flat and demotivated to leave my room or even my bed, but whenever I get the opportunity I try to push myself to get some form of exercise or to meet up with a friend or a few friends when I'm feeling up to it (which admittedly isn't often).
Just those little steps go a long way to building routines and coping strategies that you can add to.
Hope you're doing alright, have a great day!
