Hi everyone first time posting anything here, and unsure about how it all works. Thought I would reach out and seek some help. So I will give you a little background;
My name is Chris and I have been experiencing all sorts of negative anxieties and even depression for the last ten years. I find it difficult to find the exact words to describe how i feel but this analogy seems to hit the nail on the head so to speak.
Most days feel like I am in a burning building, the flames get hotter and I start coughing, wheezing and panicking, then i run to another part of the building and I can just about withstand it, but almost inevitably the flames rise again, trap me and the whole process happens again. The only thing that will extinguish the fire is rain, however it hasn't rained in years.
Bringing it back to the real world, panic attacks happen for me every now and again at least once every couple of weeks, it can be the smallest of things that trigger panic and some attacks are more severe than others. I have tried counsellors, psychologists and doctors and nothing seems to work for me yet, so I thought I would give this a go and reach out to people hoping that there are others out there who can empathise with my situation.
Thanks in advance for listening
Chris

Hi Chris,
Sorry you are feeling this way.... I have recovered from OCD....
When you saw your doctor did they prescribe medication? Or did your phycologist help you with any strategies?
I understand anxiety can be very debilitating and exhausting... 😊

Hi Petal22
Yes I am cuurrently on medication. My psychologist gave me some vague strategies, however basically I was advised to just wait it out.

That's really brave of you to open up on the forums like this! Massive props to you.
I bet it would feel really frustrating having to go through all those professionals and still have such a lack of answers. For me, I know that journaling and recounting really bad days have helped in presenting a broader view of my day-to-day mental health to professionals in the past. Could this be an avenue you could consider?
As for your analogy, that is powerful stuff. Hoping for rain very soon.
Best,
Wishes

Hi albax776,
I hope your medication is helping you....
Maybe go back to your gp and do a mental health plan..... this will give you 10 free sessions with a phycologist.... I wouldn’t go back to the phycologist you saw previously... I don’t think they should have advised you to wait it out..... anxiety needs treating and you need to be taught strategies so you can apply them when needed... it takes practice with strategies but you can learn to overcome anxiety.....
Have a chat to your gp let them know how you are feeling and I hope your next phycologist can be more helpful......
have you tried meditation, mindfulness, attention training?
