Anxious about delayed recovery

Boya

I had a prostrate operation 4 weeks ago. The doc said it went well but I do not Dee any improvement at all in my need to go to the toilet all the time. I am stressed about it. I don't see the specialist for another 4 weeks. How can I reduce this anxiety in the mean time? This is my first post and am I doing it correctly?

Hi Boya

Welcome to the BB forum and I am so very glad that you are here to get some support around your operation with your prostrate. I can only speak on behalf of what I have observed from my father, being a woman I can not speak from experience however I hope his story provides you with some hope and comfort.

About 6 years ago my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer and he thought about managing it with diet, this we learnt plays a big part in prostrate health. They have found meat and dairy are food groups that when eliminated from the diet actually help in prostrate health. We reminded my father that it is cancer we are dealing with here and he agreed to have the medical intervention.

As a family we were terrified to be dealing with cancer and he ended up finding a very accomplished surgeon and had the prostrate removed. It was a very successful operation.

I wanted to share this with you as there is some time after this operation where both urinary and sexual functions are compromised and he too went through this. I think we too thought that once the operation was over that it would all just be "back to normal"....I can report now that he is back to 100% "normal"...but it did take some time. The body has to recover from the operation, it has to then "learn" again how to do the things it was supposed to be doing before that over time it was not due to the nature of the prostrate being effected.

Over about 4 months I think he could report that he was almost back to being 20 again.

I understand you must be feeling so very overwhelmed with worry that the results are not showing as soon as you had hoped but please try to remain positive if you can, do the exercises that have been given and have confidence in the body being able to heal.

The healing time is different for everyone but I am sure that soon enough you will start to see some great and positive improvements.

I am not sure if I have helped at all but we are here to chat and to work through this anxious time with you Boya.

All the very best to you and hope to chat some more.

Hugs

Sarah...oh and yes, you have posted correctly....perfect in fact!!
