Anxiety caused by coming off birth control?

Marie27

I recently have come off the pill birth control. About two weeks after stopping the pill I have begun having major anxiety attacks. I am already diagnosed with depression and general anxiety disorder, but have never had such debilitating anxiety attacks as the ones I have been having in the last week.
I have been trying to work out the cause of the sudden attacks, and was wondering if it might be from coming off the pill. Has anyone else had similar issues? If so, did things go back to normal eventually?

Dear Marie27~

It has taken a little while for you to get a response. I regret that, unfortunately the system does not always work as we would wish. Please rest assured it is not you, or the subject matter, it just happens.

I am not a doctor, and can only answer by saying firstly that taking anything that may affect your hormonal balance and other matters can have side effects, and stopping something that does when your body is used to it may well have side effects too.

Rather than worry about the unexplained may I suggest you go see your GP or the prescribing doctor and discuss how you have been feeling. Depression and anxiety are bad enough without random reactions on top.

You may well find a period of adjustment is to be expected and at least that will give you a timescale for a cessation of symptoms to look forward to
