Anxiety and nausea

Hi, I'm 21 years old and I've suffered from anxiety from the around the age of eight. During this time my anxiety continues to change my symptoms, as my resilience builds against current symptoms. Because of this, each time I'm faced with the question - is this anxiety, or am I actually ill this time? As of the past month or so I've been feeling extremely nauseous from time to time, and I've also been light headed and feeling panicked. I made the mistake of googling 'what causes nausea?', and this has now increased my nausea and vertigo severely because of the possible illnesses that could be the root of my symptoms. I was previously unaware that anxiety could actually cause nausea or vertigo, so I suppose a large portion of me is worried that I am suffering an actual illness. It seems when I start to feel nauseous, it gets worse, because it consumes my each and every thought. It has now gotten to the stage where I don't want to leave my bed, and I'm struggling to eat anything at all, in fear it will make me sick. My question is: has anybody else experienced this? and if so, how did you get over the nausea or the feeling as though you're about to faint?

Thank you.

Hi Strong

I want to tell you that I feel encouraged when I read your profile name of "Strong". Good choice you made!

I am pretty sure that nausea and the shallow breathing is common when you have anxiety. I only get a bit anxious every now and then, even that makes me feel like a have butterflies in my tummy.

Have you looked on the resources here on Beyond Blue? You can scroll down the web page and click on anxiety. You can download stuff to read.

Anyway take care now

Shell xx

Hello Katesb

Welcome to The Beyond Blue Community!

I just noticed that you posted on the 14th April and thankyou for doing so. You have also shared your own experiences which many people do read and thankyou so much in doing so Katesb.

There are many kind and caring people like yourself on the forums. It would be great if you could say hello or even pop in to the Beyond Blue Cafe and pull up a beanbag and have a virtual cuppa 🙂

I completely relate

I have never felt such strong nausea with my anxiety until recently, and I believe it is from (as you said) your body overcoming the other forms and symptoms of anxiety

I decided to do some research which led me here as I was also beginning to think (as it was so severe) I might actually be ill

I can't believe how accurately you described my feelings

Also looking for answers on how to overcome

Thanks

I've experienced anxiety probably since around 15 onwards

I had never experienced this extreme nausea associated with my anxiety until last week. Triggered also by an abusive relationship in which I am trying to leave.

I can't believe how the thought of seeing him to give his items back brings on such a strong wave I feel like I'll lose my stomach and still not be okay.

It comes on so strong and so suddenly and is the most awful feeling brought on by myself.

I began to think I was actually ill (a fever or flu or something) until I read other posts on here with people identifying exactly as I did

To read to accept your anxiety in a way where you embrace it and can say "it's okay, it's anxiety, I accept this" was probably the best thing I could have read

Thankyou

Wow Liv1993s, Im so glad I had read your post. Its exactly what is going on with me at the moment.

After some big operations this year I seemed to have developed anxiety after them. I was the same, nausea all day, every day, lost 10kg and I was small to start with and no appetite. This has been going on for 3 months.

I had every test under the sun also and all came back clear.

I have just now accepted that its anxiety and just started to see a psychologist and anti-depressants. I have only been taking the AD for 2 weeks with no help at this stage. Probably a bit more nausea and heart pulpitations. It might need more time??

You have given me hope that this will not be forever and I thank you for that!

Hi Aria....Just a compliment for you if thats okay.....and if I can quote you....

"accept your anxiety in a way where you embrace it and can say "it's
okay, it's anxiety, I accept this" was probably the best thing I could
have read"

You understand and good on you. Gentle Acceptance of anxiety is a great way to 'unlock' the door to having some peace. Sure it may not work all of the time....but it does most of the time 🙂

Well Said Aria....Nice1

Hi Shelley,

I haven't taken much time to look at the resources as I'm usually only on BB when I'm at my worst.

Good suggestion, thank you.

Yes I currently have the exact same thing. I've had every test done other than an endoscopy. Bloods, stool, scans, X-rays, and ultrasound and only a couple of minor things showed up, nothing to worry about. So I'm ready to start on anxiety meds but very nervous as I'm frightened of what the side effects might be. However, so sick of the nausea that I'm willing to try. Good luck let me know if you find out anything more about what's causing your nausea.

Hi Annie May,

Welcome to the community here at Beyond Blue. I see that you have joined in with this thread that has not been active for a while. You may not receive too much connection here.

Do you feel confident to start your own thread? If so then click on All Posts, scroll down to Anxiety, and on the right hand side of the page you will find a "thing" that says "New Thread". If you click on that, you will be able to start up a thread of your own and people will see it and be able to connect with you.

The moderators check the messages, so it may take a while for your post to come up on the forum, the same with answers, it doesn't mean your message won't come up, it could just take a little while.

If you read the responses to other people in the anxiety section you will see responses from other people.

Beyond Blue have some informative resources on Anxiety, they have a phone help line as well on 1300 22 4636.

The best thing really if you are able, is to start up your own thread.

All the best to you and hope you find some answers for your anxiety.

Cheers from Mrs. Dools

Hi Annie may.. did you start a new thread? No worries if you didn't. I'm also new and joined based on this thread. Anxiety is not new to me but has been presenting in many different physical forms recently, including nausea. Dr Google finds me dead and buried over and over again and i.must.stop.googling! I am seeing my Gp this week hopefully and will have some tests sorted to rule out health issues which I'm hoping will help control my anxiety a little. .. I'm just feeling out of control and so scared
