Restarting Medication?

Hi All,

Two years ago I had extreme anxiety, the dr prescribed me medication which ended up helping. Fast forward two years I've started developing anxiety again, nothing major like before but some days are worse than others - I try to convince myself that I can get past it without the need for the pills again but it seems to be getting worse. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Hi randomsarz,

Firstly, welcome to the forums.

I have suffered from anxiety for around 10 years and I know the feelings of when it comes and goes, I think medication only masks the issue and doesn't resolve it. Have you tried counselling as well as medication or just medication? I think with anxiety working towards finding what is causing the anxiety in the first place is the key and understanding why it is happening, this can be done with a psychologist. I suffered for many years with anxiety and found a major reason was unresolved family issues.

Please, post back as much as you like, I am always happy to talk.

My best for you,

Jay

Hi ransomsarz and welcome to the BB forums 🙂

Like Jay, I have lived with anxiety/depression for quite a period of time.

I view medication as something to help you maintain your life, whilst working on what is the underlying cause of the anxiety. I’m suggesting that you view medication as a helpful crutch, to get you where you want to go. Bit like having a broken leg - you need crutches until things have healed enough to do without.

I agree with Jay, digging out the reason for the anxiety is very important, always happy to listen to what you have to say, cheers M 🙂

hi Randomsarz, as everyday approaches we never know what's going to happen, nor are we able to predict what our moods will be like, they may start off well but then deteriorate, or it could possibly be the other way around.
The same can happen even when you are taking medication, what it does is help you, it puts you 2 steps forward than if you're not taking it, however the dosage may still need to be increased as suggested by your doctor.
It's virtually impossible to do this by yourself, although there are different programs that may help you try and relax but there maybe times when you can't actually perform these, so it maybe a good idea to start once again, but you should see your doctor first, Geoff.
