Private hospital

Hi looks like im heading into a private hospital for my depression and anxiety all to do with my workers comp and injury.

I was wondering if there is any remifications or restrictions in life after you have been in a hospital ?

Welcome to the forums. If your medical team believe this is the best treatment for you now it seems reasonable to go into hospital. Obviously I cannot make a comment about that.

I'm not sure what you are asking so I will talk about what you may mean. Will there be any discrimination against you because you have spent time in a psychiatric hospital? I presume you are going into a psychiatric hospital. I see no reason why there would be any discrimination against you. It's no different to having a mental illness (depression) which most people who write here also live with. Being in hospital means you need treatment that cannot be given in another way.

Private hospitals are usually more comfortable than public hospitals and have more resources. I spent a week in one some years ago which was beneficial. It was not particularly a topic of conversation afterwards but then how often do we discuss our various ailments.

By restrictions do you mean you cannot hold a driving licence or something similar? Not that I know. Your ability to hold a licence, and this is just an example, is reliant on not having too many demerits, or a specific medical condition. These can include, eyesight problems, sometime epilepsy depending on the extent, diabetes in some instances especially when it affects the eye sight. There may be more but I'm sure you get the picture. Simply having a hospital stay would be unlikely to debar you.

No idea if I have answered your question. If you want specific information you will need to indicate the area. I really think you are looking at social situations or barriers to promotion. As far as I know anyone claiming you are unable or ineligible to do something on the basis that you have spent some time in a psychiatric hospital may well be discriminatory. I suggest if you have a specific situation in mind that you either write in again and explain or go to whatever authority makes the decisions you are concerned about, e.g Main Roads.

Thanks yeah i have been seeing a psychologist and a psychiatrist for depression and anxiety for the last year and over the last few months ive been getting worse.they think now the best place is a private hospital to get help and get some cbt.

Sorry my question wasnt clear.it was is there any draw backs in life if you had been in a mental hospital ie driving traveling o/s etc.

My depression is all caused by my work injury and insurance company taking there time and treating you like you are a piece of dirt.

I have been reading some good stories on here and a lot hits the spot.

To answer you question I don't think there are many long term problems associated with being in hospital.

I have PTSD, anxiety and bouts of depression caused by my work. I've been hospitalized. While there has been and still is stigma associated with mental illness I've never been refused a driving license, insurance or similar, and I have the feeling if there is any downside it is associated with the illness itself, not hospitalization.

This does not mean it is impossible, after all I lead a rather unadventurous life, however I would not let vague worries about your future status affect your decision to go into hospital

When hospitals come in all standards from horrible to excellent I have found it a very great help.

Perhaps others here have not been as fortunate in their post-hospital experiences, I've no way of knowing

Hi

I have been denied life insurance because of my mental illnesses. So has my husband. I don’t think having been in hospital was the basis - just having a mental illness was enough.

I have been told by friends who have MI who have travelled overseas they could not get medical insurance that would cover a flare up of their MIs.

This was 20 years ago though. Where did that time go? It might be worth finding out for your own piece of mind.
