New to antidepressants and sad

LJpd81
Community Member

Hi so I'm only on my 4th day of taking antidepressants due to depression, anxiety and S/H.

Yesterday I almost felt normal and happier at work. Also i know it's bad, but I had 4 glasses of wine last night. I know it canmake symptoms worse but I disregarded any of my rational, sensible thoughts. By the 3rd glass, my head felt funny. I stopped after 4. I knew I had had enough. I had more left and normally I'd drink it.

Today I woke up in a panic. Thought I had slept though my alarm but I still had 10 minutes. My heart has been pounding too.

Yesterday I felt positive. Today I feel sad and anxious and on the verge of tears. Nothing has happened either.

I'm guessing this is normal to have ups and downs? Also I know it's bad, but I do have the uegeto S/H today. I'm off to work and feeling low.

I've been having back pain, feeling nauseous at times and sometimes tired. I'm wondering if this is the medication.

Hi LJpd81,  It sounds like there is a lot going on for you right now, and you're dealing with it the best you can. It can be really difficult to go through ups and downs, especially when you're experiencing pain and nausea. It's important to keep your doctor or psychologist up to date with how things are going for you, especially when you have questions about the medication.  Remember you can call us on 1300 22 4636 if you need support at any time. If you'd like some advice and support around self-harm, do have a look at the following pages:
  • Our information pages on Self-Harm and Self-Injury has some strategies for in the moment, as well as longer term ideas for staying well, as well as information on finding other ways to cope, recognising triggers, and learning to change your focus.
  • The forum thread Instead of harming myself I now... has lots of other forum user's experiences of coping with these feelings. Feel free to share, if you're comfortable to, what helps you in that moment, either on this thread or on your own.
It's brilliant that you've come here to share your experience, you never know how its helping other members of our community. Please let us know how you go today, if you're comfortable to. Kind regards,   Sophie M

Thanks very much Sophie.

So I did S/H 3 times today at work. There was a few times I felt low and sad and just wanted to lose it and cry. But I had to hold it together.

I've been really hot today. I usually wear a long sleeved top and jacket at work. Today I was so hot. I wonder if hot flushes are part of antidepressant side affects. I've also had a dry mouth.

Hi LJpd81,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing. Sophie has given you quite a few excellent information. I would also recommend you visit your specialist and tell him/her all about your current symptoms. The symptoms may vary from person to person and the specialist should be able to put your mind at ease and tell you if what you are experiencing is to be expected or not.

Let us know how you go, please.

Take care.

Thanks so much. I'm seeing my doctor Wednesday and psychologist Thursday.

I will thank you.

when I started on ADs I had a few different symptoms. The one I can be remember is that I had a crawling skin sensation. I would suggest you keep notes on how you are feeling for when you chat with your GP. And having a dry mouth can be a common side effect. You should have received instructions and information with the medication which covers common side effect, not so common, etc.

Thanks. Yes I did. Will chat to my doctor and psychologist.

Hello LJpd81

Thankyou for being a part of the forum family!

I started my AD's when my anxiety was chronic and it took around a week for them to kick in....for others it takes a couple of weeks

They dont usually work straight away..yet the results (for myself) helped me so much

any questions are always welcome

kind thoughts

Paul

Thanks so much. For me depression and anxiety. I can't feel any difference yet. Unsure if my side affects are related

Evening LJpd81!

I'm glad to see you're working forward, cool man/woman.

All the anti-D's I've taken have required 15 days or longer to start working optimally.

but yep, really glad to read u r gonna report your symptoms again to gp and psych.

I've found dry mouth can be mitigated with things like butter menthols or hard lollies which made me salivate a bit more to counteract the dryness in short term.

Honey is another good one for keeping a nice mouth feel too.

good luck, dng.
