what give you hope?

often in our darkest times we dont think about the positives in life, or looking ahead at a future life and what that might look like, so when things get really tough and we are loosing the hope that things will change, or loosing the will to go on what is is that give you that light in a dark tunnel?

is it your pets? friends? a certain quote?

it can be anything as long as it helps you in your darkest hour

For me what gives me hope is that there have been people in a similar situation as me esp the CSA and whilst it was a very hard journey and by no means an easy recovery, they are alot better. of course they have their bad days, who doesnt? but its the fact that they didnt give up, and they managed to get througha dark tunnel blind and come out into the world a better person.

so what gives you hope?

Dear SN~

Thank you for an interesting thread.

I guess it sounds simple but a major thing for me is experience. Now I know that it is not my circumstances but my perception and mindset that is dragging me right down, and these have always changed in the past and I've improved.

Gives me a target to hang on for.

For me it's quotes; one recently I heard was; " I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my ship". It's knowing that in time things can heal & change, my family, knowing circumstances can change, other people also give me hope

Cool thread... I like it.

I can't speak much for myself, but I have listened to enough people talking about it to know quite a bit about what gives other people hope.

I guess the good thing about hope is that it walks hand in hand with "inspiration". In fact, in most cases they are intrinsically linked.

And you can be inspired by pretty much anything from music to art to travel to a smile from a stranger on the street.

As you stated, mearly knowing that your experienced is shared is enough to give some people hope. I think other than for help and advice, it is likely the reason many people come to this website in the first place.

A person I know told me that the response that she sees after a tragedy gives her hope. The way people join together to help each other, the outpouring of aid from charities people donate to, and people coming together in their grief.

Another person says when they hear that a critically endangered species numbers improve enough to get off the list... that gives them hope. Of course they are a huge animal person.

A "sciency" person I know feels hope when they discover a new solar system or planet or star. Hehe, they get so excited. I think they believe that it is by space exploration that our species will finally bond as "Earthlings" rather than be divided by "races".

A number of people I've met have told me that they are hopeful because... they just are. I guess like a 6th sense kind of "I don't know why but I feel everything will be ok". Funnily enough, these are usually among the "happier" people I have known.

I remember when I saw the story about the father who downloaded the plans and 3D printed a functioning hand for his amputee son. While this did not give me hope directly, I'm sure that every parent with a child that had a lost limb and amputees that saw it were extremely hopeful.

I guess a lot of hope comes from seeing positive progress in something that you are personally passionate about, or having someone to share what you are currently going through with.

thats really great Croix! experience is a big one and i guess when you look back and see what youve been through compared to now it can be an eye opener cant it!

thats awesome Monkey. have you thought about wirting it down and putting it somewhere in constant view like near your bed or in a photo frame on your bedside table to remind yourself of that?

hi Unbeleiver firstly welcome to BB forums 🙂

thats great! yes i agree with you. being able to see progress is a big thing too!

ive created a thread thats called 'who inspires you' maybe you would like to contribute there too if your up for it?

Croix and Monkey your both invited to that thread also ( and followers 🙂 )

Hey SN,

Thats a good idea. Making me sad though because of what's currently going on in my life. Oh well just got to suck it up until something is done about it 😞 BTW I have written on your other thread , but I'll write more...

I would love to give you all a bit of hope.

I had major depression which made me quit my job and stay home every day. I got myself a job and now most days i feel fine most of the day. I am almost recovered. Some weeks I dont feel down at all and have experienced so many really positive emotions.

Recovery is out there!
