How can we improve the forums? Your suggestions and comments please

Hi all, this thread is a running commentary for all members on things for improvements to the forums. This can be anything from how it looks, the categories, to moderation, community rules etc.

While we might not be able to implement everything straightaway, or keep everyone happy all of the time, we'd like to hear about what you think we can do better.

To avoid repeating suggestions already received, below are some results from our last user survey giving an indication of which new features people would like to see on the forums. This survey was answered by 1,597 users:

44% - Email notification when I have a reply on the forum
39% - Access to the forums via an app
27% - Ability to block seeing posts by specific users
25% - Ability to contact users privately
25% - Ability to use emoticons
25% - Ability to follow posts by specific users
24% - Ability to share links
23% - Forum posts visible only to registered users
22% - A profile, viewable by others users, where I can introduce myself
21% - Ability to quickly access all posts by a particular user
15% - Ability to tag users in a conversation
10% - Ability to share images
6% - Ability to share videos
17% - None of these

HOW do I find all the links to read? the ones Sofie directs people to read? I am bad at the PC stuff but I would like to read these sites/ pages or whatever they are called/ Links?- Help I cant find them.

Hey amberlite, 

We hope we have understood your question correctly, but are you asking how to access a webpage via a link?

To access a webpage via a link move your mouse over the link (which will appear as red text but will turn blue once your mouse is over it) and click. This will then take you to the 'linked' website/webpage.

Hi Sophie- Yes the links that show a web page- I see experienced members giving links to web pages. But what I want to know is how do I find the web pages without having a link? Thanks

Hey Amberlite,

If you would like to access a webpage via a link that is not activated (also called a web address, e.g. https://www.beyondblue.org.au/)

You can copy the web address/link and paste it into the address bar of your web browser. This should then take you to the webpage.

You can also copy and paste the web address into Google. This will generate results of related websites/web pages. Typically the first result will be the website you are looking for.

Hi amberlite with doing it on my phone I just press on the link and up comes three options

And I just clicked on open and the web page came up.

highlight link, right click, "go to" or "open" is a really simple way that im surprised hasnt been brought up yet

may i suggest a section on body image/eating disorders?

i think that could be a fertile ground for discusson for many ppl. it comes up a lt and it wuld be cool to have the threads heaped in one place.
