Period related anxiety?

Emb05

Lately I have felt terrible just run down all the time and can never get out of my head if I am alone. Sleeping is the worst for me.

I believe my anxiety increases when I get my period and honestly I just want to die most of the time because all these invasive thoughts push everyone further and further away from me.

This *attacks* cause me to not want to eat, see anyone, anyone see my body or prevent me from doing everyday normal activities like going to school or hanging out with friends.

So really I was just wondering wether anybody else feels this way. And if it’s normal

Hi There Emb05,

As cliché as it sounds, this would probably be your PMS talking (Premenstrual syndrome). In your case it could be that during your period your oestrogen levels are flying very high up, and significantly low down shortly after, this is your hormones playing games on your mood and is quite common in most women.

I too get very bad anxiety and depression either 3-4 days before or also during my period, and i understand it sucks.

Birth Control can also play a part in this, I was once on the pill to help with my period heaviness but it had such a bad impact on my anxiety and depression that i just had to get off of it (and it took me 2 years to realise the cause). This is the same, it has “artificial hormones” which can significantly have an impact on your mental health.

I would suggest a blood test, this MAY help find the cause of your regular fatigue. Maybe you are lacking in something as simple as vitamin D or ion?

I hope this helps darling, and you are not alone. Try to accept the love and help the people around you are trying to give, maybe you just need a hug. Pushing people further away won’t help much, as it’ll make you feel worse and more alone. (i have also done this in the past)

lots of love,

Hi Emb05,

I am right here with you fighting this battle around period time too. I have GAD and depression and also a diagnosis of PMDD. My anxiety symptoms magnify x10 around period time. While I am by no means a medical expert, those symptoms sound similar to mine and its possible you suffer with PMDD. Apparently anti depressants and good lifestyle (clean eating, exercise and good sleep) help with this condition. I am on a journey trying to implement them in my life, not finding it easy but I am trying.

I totally hear you regarding how bad you feel around this time of month, its horrible. Hopefully your GP can offer you some support and solutions. I will keep you in my thoughts as I fight a similar battle.

Best wishes to you.

CS.
