Hi guys I’m new to posting on here!
i just wanted to get some advice I currently am suffering really bad insomnia it has just triggered and I can’t break the cycle I have mediation before bed but I can’t keep the thoughts of what’s going on in my head to relax me. Has anyone even experience this and have any advice on what I can do to make it better?

Hi Chooky,
I feel for you. I often struggle with insomnia too, so I know how much of a strain sleep deprivation can be...
I can offer some general suggestions, and you can see if any of them might be helpful 🙂
- Avoid doing non-sleep related activities on your bed (e.g. work, watching programs, etc), because you want your mind to associate bed with sleeping and not other things. Also, so your brain isn’t overstimulated before bed.
- Try to avoid using your phone 2 hours before bed or change the setting of the brightness (some phones have a special night time brightness mode). I forget the science behind it, but there’s something that smart phones emit that disrupts sleeping and might overstimulate the mind.
- Some people find listening to calming music or meditating before bed helps clear their head.
- Mindfulness activities might help to ground anxious thoughts that come up around bed time (e.g. naming five sights, five smells, five sounds, etc to focus your mind on the here and now)
- Try to avoid overly stimulating activities (e.g. work, study, etc) just before bed.
Kind thoughts to you 🙂
