is this anxiety?

Hey everyone, I hope everyone is well.

I just was wondering if this is anxiety or just me doing I don't even know what. I am 17 and doing year 12 🙂

Sometimes when I get really nervous I feel sick and if I am super nervous I vomit. This happens for a whole range of situations such as races, tests, meetings with coaches and teachers, waiting for replies, you name it. I also get really paranoid about the outcomes of things that I can't control, like all of the above.

Also sometimes I can't breathe. This can be gradual and mild or it can be really severe like I can't breathe at all. During one of these severe cases I was at a school camp and the teacher helped me to be able to breathe. she mentioned something like "because you can talk to me now it's probably just your anxiety" and I was a little bit confused because I don't have anxiety. this happened last year.

I was just wondering if I should get it checked out, which I probably won't do, but also and tips? thank you xx

Hello megss

It's impossible for any of us to give you a diagnosis over the internet, even if we were medically trained.

Certainly the signs and symptoms you describe can be part of the profile for someone suffering one of the anxiety disorders but other factors would need to be taken into account before a health professional would give you a diagnosis.

Of one fact that I am certain, the earlier you receive a diagnosis and the earlier you commence therapy the better will be your long term outcome (assuming the diagnosis is anxiety). You sound young, don’t wait until your late twenties before you do something about it.

My advice is to talk to your GP about options for referral, maybe an adolescent mental health service like Headspace. Good luck.

Yes, I agree with betternow. I think you should show to a GP and also take a free test on Mindspot about your condition. It always better to get checked rather than worrying unnecessarily.

Do not worry too much about your condition. You seem to be young and I hope everything is going good with you. Just stay strong, read self help books and try to be more organised.

You should try speaking and sharing with your trustworthy friends about your problems. Suppressed emotions and problems could lead to more mental problems. Moreover the forum is also a very good way to recieve help.

Lastly, not all mental health problems are chronic or serious. Some are occasional. Thus you need not worry at all.

Stay calm, happy and strong, and have fun. Your best will come automatically.

Regards

Hi megss.

Yes, that definitely sounds like anxiety symptoms you mentioned. These are common, however, it's different yet similar for everyone with anxiety. Have you spoken to a professional about it or asked them? I'm sorry you struggle a lot with all of those.

I hope you feel better and your symptoms reduce. Best wishes, take care. Thinking of you.

Hi Betternow,

Thank you for your reply, sorry this one took so long. I do understand that there is no way to say anything definitive, I was just wondering if this was something I should look into and I think it might be. Thank you so much again and I hope you are well 🙂

Hi wannabe_alpha,

Sorry this took forever to respond. Thank you for your reply. I spoke to a friend about it and I think I have a plan, I was just trying to get a sense of what was going on. Thanks for your advice and I hope that you are well.

Hi Tayla,

I haven't spoken to a professional yet, I just didn't really know what was going on or whether it was worth talking to someone about it but I think that it might be a good idea.

Thanks for your reply, it means a lot and sorry it took so long, its crazy times atm.

I hope that you are doing okay 🙂
