Anxiety brought on by the heat?

Bulus_Shabbaz

I just had an "episode" It is really hot today, which is always bad for me, my medication makes me extra sensitive to the sun. I was overheating and started to open up the house and then I snapped. I started to get anxious and aggressive and was muttering my self, and I was randomly going from room to room, and pulling out stuff and throwing it in the bin. and then it was like I hit a brick wall which startled me and made me stop. And now I am fine. Just cooling down with a fan and open window and some water. I am a little stressed but I am OK.

Hello Bulus Shabbaz...

Im sorry that happened to you, through the hot day..Is this something that usually happens to you, since you began your medication... My medication causes me to feel hot and sticky when the temperature starts rises...I have spoken to my psychiatrist and he told me to keep hydrated in the hotter weather...

Have you spoken to your dr about your episode today?...Please maybe make an appointment with your Dr. and talk to him/her about this episode..I feel it’s very important to let them know what happened...

I am pleased your okay now...but also a little stressed...Deep breathing helps to relieve a bit of our stress...as well as listening to some music...I hope your still okay, since you posted here...

Please keep us updated on how your feeling..

My kind thoughts..

Hello Bulus,

I am sorry to hear this, there must of been something that triggered your reaction but it is good to hear that you recovered with some water, a fan and opening windows. Not everyone can be into Summer which is okay. Think of some activities that you could do during summer that is more indoorsy rather than outdoorsy

Good luck

Hey Bulus Shabbaz,

I'm really sorry that you had to experience that. Have you talked to your GP/psychiatrist about your medication? is this a common side effect of your medication when exposed to hot weather? Im really glad that you are okay now. However, it might be helpful to mention this episode to your Dr. It might also be a good idea to have a routine of keeping track of the weather just to prepare yourself for those particularly hot days. @Little Miss Overthinker also had a great suggestion about brainstorming some indoor activities for the summer. I know i really enjoy painting and drawing indoors during really hot days. Maybe you also have some indoor-related hobbies you enjoy?

Please keep us updated whenever you feel up to it!

Wishing you all the best ~

I hear you.....I find my anxiety gets worse when I am hot or out in public where the aircon is not working & the place feels stifling. Randomly (and I so want to exercise) I feel panic coming on when exercising & the feeling of being hot inside my body, like when you cheeks flare up getting all rosy.....I hate that & it just creates more weird feelings of anxiety like being cranky, and too wandering the house.....like you I take the time to sit where it is cool (My electric company loves my fan use), drink water & try to deep breathe.....closing my eyes as well for a few minutes helps with the over stimulation I find the situation causes...Stay well X

Thank you for your kind words people. The extra sensitivity and reaction to the heat is an unfortunate side effect of the medication, I spoke to the doctor and they said that considering the situation the episode was not so dramatic but they understand any episode is stressful. They said I need to be sure to do what I can to cool down during the hot temperature, as I am aware of my sensitivity. We are going to review my medication the next time I am at an appointment.

Hello Dear Bulus Shabbaz,

My medication does the same to me...Before anti depressants I could handle the heat not to bad...Since the meds, I only have to walk around my yard and I start perspiring, and my skin starts feeling hot and sticky...My Dr told me..like yours did to try to keep cool....

I found a cool damp towel across the back of my neck helps a lot as well as icy water...

The other problem with my meds...not sure if you are the same..because of the extra heat I feel with my meds..I tend to get a lot of headaches as my body overheats...mainly in summer, so the damp towel I use a lot, and I always take a bottle of iced water to bed with me...and whenever I go out into the back/front yard or out into town.,.

Not sure if what works for me will work for you..but just sharing in case your looking for things to try..

My kindest thoughts with care..

Grandy..
