Losing my sight at 12. Am very scared

Hello, Im new to this website. Recently, I have actually been losing my sight. I already have lost the sight in the centre of my right eye and the same thing is happening in my left eye. I have been getting lots of tests done and actually am getting some more done tomorrow and Im terrified. It's really interfering with school as well. I couldn't do my start of the year tests because I couldn't see the words. The school now knows about it but Im still scared. My sight is getting worse. How should I feel better about the situation?

Hello GG

Welcome to the forums albeit under such difficult circumstances

Being terrified would be expected with any loss of our eyesight GG....Can I ask if you have the support of your school counsellor and of course your parents at this time?

The forums are private and judgement free..I am sorry that you are going through this horrible situation...I hope you can get back to us when its convenient for you

my kind thoughts

Hi gg_.

Welcome to the forums and thanks so much for reaching out. I can totally see that you'd be scared right now and I imagine that it must be really terrifying not knowing or feeling like your sight is going completely.

Paul mentioned getting some support and I think that it sounds like a good idea. I know for me I would really want a space to feel whatever I had to feel - maybe that's fear, but maybe sadness, grief or anger too. Do you have some people like that?

By your post I think the tests you are having done are today so I really hope that you can get some answers and if you want, we'll be here for you if you want to share how you got on.

Thank you very much for your help. I did have testing yesterday and I got diagnosed with an eye condition. I also have to go to other specialists because they said something else might be going on as well. Im going to be talking to more teachers today because Im still struggling to read the board even though Im in the front row. I also told my parents about how I felt.

Hi gg_ - I cannot think what it must be like for you at the moment and you are doing all the right things by talking to your parents and teachers etc. I am sure your teachers will work out ways for you to learn the material and participate in school related activities.

RT talked about having some spaces where you can let out the feelings you have.

I hope you you do not mind me sharing a little story while you have these feelings... there is a lady at church who sings in the choir and is blind. She had such a wondering singing voice. Something that I did not know about her until last year is that she also has a PhD.

Some door may close, others may open. You will still be the same person and as you take this journey remember there are people that will support and care for you along the way, including the people here.
