Hi John,

Welcome to the forum!

Striking a life balance between work, relationships and other activities can be difficult. If you live with a partner or friend, perhaps spend more time with them when you're both at home, rather than doing separate activities. Poor sleep can be so frustrating and debilitating. I developed insomnia after being in hospital for months, partly because the nightly noise in the ward disrupted my sleep patterns. You are smart for not wanting to use medication for sleep. These meds can become addictive, and don't remedy the underlying reason/s for the poor sleep.

If you don't mind me asking, have you had any problems with your mental health before? Poor mental health is a major factor in sleep disturbance. Seeing your doctor (GP) about your sleep difficulties and other challenges, is a good move.

I'd like to refer you to some great resources:

Hi there and welcome. SM has offered u some great advice xx I to am a shocking sleeper ib find reading a book doing some mindfulness b4 bed sometimes does the trick but not always. I have been a light sleeper all of my life. Like sm has said smart choice to give sleeping meds a miss bc yes they can become addictive and don't really treat underlying cause. I would also advise to seek assistance from ur local gp generally a good place to start with then if need be the appropriate referrals will be given to you. Best of luck please do keep in touch and let us know how u go all here for you xx Venessa
