Hi everyone, August is Tradies National Health Month, to highlight the importance of health and safety among Australia’s trade workers. Mental health and wellbeing is crucial to the safety of anyone in the mining or construction industries, so Beyond Blue is hosting a special free webinar for our tradie community on Tuesday 12 August at 4.30pm which you can register for here. We know that Tradies can face unique stressors, with a culture of toughness and difficult job demands that can impact personal time and self-care. It can also be tough for partners and family members who aren’t sure how to support someone in a trade who may be showing signs that their mental health isn’t at its best. If you’re unsure where to start your conversation this is the space for you. Whether you want to share your own experiences, ask questions, or simply connect with others who understand what you're going through, you're in the right place. If you're seeking additional support, here are some resources: Hope Assistance Local Tradies: Home This Is A Conversation Starter: TIACS - This is a Conversation Starter Mates in Construction: MATES - Industry Based Suicide Prevention - MATES Don’t forget - our counsellors are always here for you on 1300 22 46 36. Every now and then, members share a beautiful Pearl of Wisdom. How often do you think to yourself; "OMG that's great! I wish everyone could see this." Presenting someone with a bunch of flowers is a generous way of acknowledging their insightful words. I hope this thread stays active through members giving out praise regularly to people they feel deserving, and therefore keep generosity of spirit alive within the pages of BeyondBlue Forum. My bunch of Red Roses (my choice) goes to Wishful for the following sentence; 'Personally, I see no reason to be praised in me, but I'm learning that seeing through the eyes of others can be more accurate!!' I so hear you Wishful. Just beautiful... Try to keep your leading comments short to focus on 'their' words. Choose specific flowers (or a gift if you like) to present to them. Sign off respectfully and sincerely. I hope this takes off... Spreading the love...Sara

Recently I had some disappointing/frustrating experiences with healthcare providers. I had to reschedule my work hours for both appointments. One was a GP that left me waiting for a long time and also put a late-comer ahead of me, and then my consultation only took 2 minutes because she could not see the issue/problem that was the reason for my visit. The other one was an optometrist that I went for a second-visit because of issues with the new glasses. She was defensive right from the start and made all sorts of sarcastic comments. At the end she did help me to resolve my issues but all that negative attitude from her was so unnecessary. I had been in a fragile state with my depression & anxiety so these things really bothered me for days. What is wrong with people? Are their lives so miserable that they have to exercise some kind of power over other people to make themselves feel a little better? All they had to do was greet me with a smile from the start and everything could have played out differently. As the saying goes, you get back what you give. Just a simple smile can be so powerful - it will brighten up the moment for the person that you're smiling at and also the smile eases the tension/negativity within yourself. So don't forget to smile!

You are allowed to walk away from people who are not good for your mental health. There are certain people with whom you just do not like your behaviour and the way they make you feel. It does not mean that those people are bad humans, it simply means that the two of you are vibing on different levels. Do not be afraid to let go of those who drain you, make you feel less than you are, talk you down or do not appreciate you. You are not running away from them, darling. You are simply showing yourself the respect you deserve by controlling who is allowed to be in your life. You have the power to decide what kind of energy you want to be surrounded with - choose wisely. It is so important to surround yourself with people who are positive, kind, loving and supportive, no matter what. Do not be scared to remove toxic people from your life. You are in control of your life.

After nearly 20 years of excess sweating, mainly on my head, I have come across a practitioner who has told me that I don't have enough salt in my body to retain fluid. Sounds like it's making sense I think. She recommends that I soak my feet nightly in hot water which contains both 1 teaspoon of ground Pink Himalayan Salt and 1 tablespoon of Epson Salts. I can't believe how effective it has been in radically reducing the sweating. Please give it a try, hope it works for you

Hi I know this isnt the best place to ask but Im cant cope id like to know if anyone could help with ideas? 26 MALE 25 stone 5 6FT Medication started in January " as they thought i had anexity and stress" "Which I didnt"; several changes in medication since then. My sweats are now getting unberable. I am constonley hot and dripping of sweat when doing the very BARE minium like walking around the house, going to the bus stop and back which is less than 100 meters. Its gotten so much more worse since it started 3 months ago. TODAY when doing even nothing my body feels like its on fire it feels like im burning inside all over my body its horrible feeling like im burning from inside Also noticed when in the sun or in a hot warm I feel the heat ALOT more than I use to and sweat a lot more than I did before in the same situation Also side note For pass year and half I been having palpations where it feels like my heart stops for a second then starts beatng again and somtimea I get a strong thud in chest. It would happend 1/2 times a day. Its been getting worse to where now past month I get loads of these a day mainly when im walking or doing somthing which cause my heart rate to go up. I am scared thats it due to my heart being blocked the arterys as that what it says online and also my symptomes of excess sweating. Any ideas?

Hi everyone I hope you're staying well today. Who else likes gardening? I would love to connect with people here who are happy to share their gardening adventures. For me I know that gardening helped heal my soul during tough times. I hope it will again. Then with other things going on, it became a jungle. I'm part way into rediscovering it again and doing A LOT of hard yakka atm, when I am motivated. I have new dreams and ideas to put into the many bare places, as I remove thickets of lantana etc. This will all be on a tight budget and I'm ok with that. I want to create a peaceful place where I can be. I would like to grow food again (tell 'er she's dreamin' atm lol). I would like to re-establish my worm farms and compost heaps. Autumn is such a beautiful time of the year in the garden. I'm 'alone' in my gardening journey and would love to share and hear about other's gardening antics. Hopefully we can troubleshoot any issues in our gardens and talk about any healing we're feeling too. There's a lot of knowledge we can share. I hope this thread can brighten your day! Love Ecomama Please

I don’t know my life will be like, I and many people agree that I have autism, I also have depression and anxiety, but I cope with it, live with it every day. I feel that I lost emotional connection with other people with time goes on. As I am going to graduate from university soon, I have a sudden realisation that, psychologically, I didn’t really grow up since somewhere in my high school, one example is when most people start dating, I stay single. When I was in high school, my old friends talked to me about relationship issues, I listened, but deep down I knew I didn’t understand it. And then I have done some odd job, got some qualifications, moved out, completed my degree, maybe do a PHD, I don’t know.I know I have depression and anxiety, I run my everyday life, acting normal, but alone. I met some people in the university, I know that they are ready enter long term relationship, and ready to build a family. While I still enjoy anime or playing games. I do manage my everyday life and read philosophy, psychology and other books to enrich myself (I think trying to learn how to grow up from books and podcast), but I feel that socially, emotionally, I am in some kind of arrested development, and I am getting more and more isolated. I didn’t have a happy childhood, I thought my problem would go away as adult, I don’t know if I have a future.

How are you feeling today? In 1-5 words describe how you feel... During each passing day from 2019 to now, we have all suffered from COVID-19 in different ways... Some might be academically, financially, mentally, or even physically affected... You probably are feeling numerous emotions which leads to confusion and negative thoughts. Now that you have told me how you feel I want you too got take 1-2 hours out of your day and do something you love. This might be doing art listening to music or even taking a walk with your fluffy companion to clear your mind it even might be having a nap. After 1-2 hours come back and see how you feel now... if you feel happier and more clear-minded it means that you have recharged your emotions. Each day take 20 minutes out of your busy schedules and recharge your emotions like you just did. Soon you will feel happier, healthier, and more positive. Remember we are all here to support you

I'd like to share a few "self-talk" phrases that I've jotted down over years past. Little nuggets of positive inspiration that I hear/write/meditate on, or just simply read (or re-read like a mantra) on a regular basis. Maybe their called affirmations? Things I want to manifest or continue to have. Helps me when I'm feeling down or nervous. Or if I'm doing OK, I'll still practice saying them aloud to myself regularly as a sort of maintenance exercise, just trying to keep up the positive momentum. Below are a few samples from my journaling. I'd love to hear some of yours too!! I only talk to myself with love. My body is beautiful just the way it is. I will focus on living in the present moment. People are lucky to have me in their lives. My pain is temporary.

hi everyone as the title says am looking to get out of hospitality after 13 years, been doing it since 22 & have always enjoyed it until coronavirus started, since the industry has been able to re open around june 2020 its been nothing but hard. would just like to do something where you can have a uninterrupted lunch break & have a work life balance. the only days that actually have off were asked for functions and events, every other day you wernt put down to work youre always getting called in or are thinking about it because of needs or theres someone who cant come in. am a person that likes to work for the extra money and hold things for as long as possible, however have started realising how hard the hospitality work is and since june 2020 its got worse and it hasent got any better and am looking to do something that doesnt take over your life. do know and see people that have a better work life balance and probably earn the same or more money in less time than you would in hospitality. the place of work is for sale and plan to be out once it sells or at some point before the 20 years is up and have used the finding out its for sale as the chance to do as much as possible towards the next thing while am able to spread out costs in tools and training. was also taught to never leave a job before having another option incase it takes a while unless the business sells. a 65 year old co worker left to retire which hasnt made it easy and you wonder why she couldnt wait for a couple more years and hope it sells. am just trying to hang on a bit longer as there is no option at moment for the extra money and because of loyalty to current owners. do you lot think itll sell before your 20 years is up or is it upto you to do something when youre ready. if the person taking over wants to keep you whats best way to say no or say you only want to do the secondhand side and youre not able to do what youre doing now. will be doing electrical test & tag plus the other bits to it and to make the work consistent 2-3 days part time a week what other services would be good to add with part time business is it just the usual you can earn so much before it starts to be affected but income must be reported like when working part time. thanks
