Tics and body jolting

Hi, since I went through some changes to my medications, I've noticed I have uncontrollable jolting in my body..it was thought to be from Myoclonic seizures or jolts, but now I think it's actually part of a nervous Tic..also off and on, since childhood, but more frequently now, there's pulling faces and rolling of my eyes..the shrugging shoulder action is getting worse..in two months, when my private cover is ready I plan on booking myself in...does anybody else get similar involuntary body jolts and shrugging???

Hello 9462,

I’m sorry there’s been a slow reply to your post. That sounds like a really difficult thing to be experiencing. I personally don’t have any experiences with what you describe, but there can absolutely be unexpected physical side effects from medications. It sounds like something you need to have investigated by a doctor. If you haven’t already, it would be a good idea to book in to see your GP. If you’re not happy with their response follow it up with a second opinion by another GP or ask to be referred to a specialist.

It doesn’t sound like symptoms you should just accept without knowing the cause and if there’s possible treatment. I know that some medications are more prone to causing these type of symptoms, and perhaps changing medication will be enough to alleviate them. But it’s definitely a decision to be made between you and a doctor. Good luck and take care,

Alexlisa

Hello Guest_9462...

I first started experiencing tic..jerks ect when my meds were adjusted..I was in hospital at the time...I mentioned to my psychiatrist who said they were myoclonic jerks...They continued to get worse waking me of a night by what seemed like big jolts, in my back, arms, legs etc..I mentioned again to him..then he re adjusted my meds agains and they eased off greatly very quickly..now I don’t seem to get them any more..and if I do very mild ones..that don’t stress me out ....

Please Guest..can you have a talk to your GP or psychiatrist and let him/her know,..maybe med adjustment review..

I hope they ease off for you...I know how awful they feel..

Kind thoughts..

Grandy..

Hi there...I have had something similar since around April/May this year. It occurred spontaneously after disclosing about some childhood traumas with my GP, but before I began any medication - so it was not caused by any medication. Have had brain CT and MRI to rule out anything organic and seen a neurologist. Functional movement disorder brought on by disclosing and subsequent C-PTSD. Myoclonic jerks/jolts in legs, arms and left side of face. Intervals and intensity worst immediately after initial psychologist session - lasted 5 days non-stop; worse at night when reclined, or lying down. Somewhat of a mystery. Like trauma that had been suppressed for so many decades trying to find a way out of the body. Tricky because it is involuntary. I had to warn my dentist and lucky I did. Reclined for nearly one hour I was going off like a firecracker! Keep researching, keep up with your GP in the hope of eliminating things too. Good luck to you all on this thread.

Hi 9462,

I've experienced what you're describing changing medications and coming off medication too quickly at my GP's direction. Over time things gradually improved. Have you had any improvement?
