hey there, what physical symptoms of anxiety do you experience?
I often feel very alone in my experience of having physical chest (what I think are heart) spasms and was wanting to create a space for everyone to list their physical feelings that come hand in hand with anxiety so we can all feel less alone.
hope everyone is well.

Hi everyone,
New to the forum today. I run a company, which has been tough throughout Covid and I have 3 boys - 2 with special needs. I always had anxiety - since I can remember and I go in and out of periods of having it under control and loosing control.
I’m having another bout, and the trigger is overworked, long hours, imposter syndrome, balancing work demand with fatherhood, being a good husband. I’ve been overthinking again (guilt for overworking, paranoia that I’m not working hard enough, nostalgia for a simpler time….emotions emotions) and so typically ailments emerge when I’m at breaking point which descend me into anxiety and hypochondria.
Recent symptoms include
-restlessness, insomnia
-ongoing heartburn, reflux, bloating and discomfort in the tummy
-racing thoughts
I tried a medication for 3 days and hated the way it made me feel. Added to the fact I lost my appetite, was nauseous and felt disconnected. So I quit. Now eager to work through other ways to address it.
This forum is a live saver . Thank you
Tony

We would like to welcome you to our forums. It takes great internal strength and courage to post about your personal struggles on the forum. We are a supportive community who likes to help.
We understand that you have been experiencing significant struggles with anxiety, and find the physical symptoms confronting and overwhelming. You know overwork is the primary culpret, but you need to run your business to provide for your family.
We have heard it said that the breath is the gateway to the body and mind. In fact, several of our members have posted about how nice, slow, fairly deep breathing can help you calm down. From that point, they then talk about mindfulness, or being aware, without judgment, of where your thoughts and awareness are going, can help you to start getting a little bit of connection with, and control over your anxieties.
In our experience, being able to talk to someone else, who doesn't judge us, can really help to clear our head. So, we would encourage you to call the mental health specialists at BeyondBlue Support Service on 1300 22 4636, which is available 24/7, every day of the year.
Again, thank you for joining our community, and feel free to post whenever you wish.
Warm regards,
Sophie M.

Hi Tony
Thanks for speaking from the heart and Welcome to the forums too!
I understand the pain/anguish you are going through. It can be a debilitating. The symptoms you mentioned are unfortunately common with this condition.
Can I ask if your symptoms have a detrimental effect on your ability to function on a daily basis?
The forums are a safe and non judgmental place for you (us) to post
I hope you can stick around Tony....we are listening
My kindest
Paul
