Hi, I'm Gabby.
I am about to begin my first year in a Bachelor of Psychology. I am interested in doing volunteer work in mental health, that is what lead me to this website.
I thought it might be meaningful to join the forum while I'm here, in the hopes of making like-minded friends.
A bit of background about me: I am a christian, I battle with anxiety and episodes of depression, but I am passionate about making a difference in other people's lives and making our world a bit brighter. I feel very strongly about mental health, travelling on the road to recovery and reducing the stigma around it.
If anyone is similar to me, lets chat!

Hi Gabby,
Welcome to the forums!
Congrats on getting into your preferred uni course. I hope you enjoy your first year.
Beyond Blue has some great volunteer roles that you can be part of. Have you looked into Blue Voices? They are always looking for new people and thoughts from someone who is studying psychology might be useful.

I hope to see you around the forums some more.
Kind thoughts, Jess

Hi Gabstar77 and welcome to the forums
Congrats on getting into your course. 🙂
I am glad you are passionate about breaking the stigma and helping others. Unfortunately the stigma is still there, but we are working on it and hopefully one day people won't worry about their job if they open up about their mental health.
If you ever want to chat about your recovery feel free to do so here. Although you are studying psychology, opening up to others can still be so helpful. Remember a doctor still needs to see another doctor as well

Thanks Jess334! It should be great!
Sorry I am replying so late, I didn't expect the post to go through so quickly and I sort of forgot about it, until now haha.
No,I have not come across Blue Voices before! I think I will apply. 🙂
Is this something that you are a part of?

Hello, and thanks heaps for your support, MsPurple!!
I agree, but all we can do is try. The world is making many developments and has changed a lot in the past 20 years alone.
Yes!! No one has all the answers, and sometimes a fresh perspective is so helpful.
Out of curiosity, how long have you been using these forums? and what brought you here in the first place?

Hi Gabstar,
I was a blue voice member for a few years. I helped out with surveys and even a video.
Now I volunteer as a Community Champion, welcoming and supporting others on the forums.

Dear Gabstar
Hello and welcome to the forum.Congratulations on being accepted to you course. I went to uni in my forties and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I hope you will enjoy the experience. Do you have plans to become a psychologist?
There are many people on this forum that are passionate about mental health and helping others. It's good to wander around the site and look at the resources BB has to offer. Go to the Get Involved tab at the top of the page. You will find information about volunteering and a number of other options including Blue Voices. Check out the literature under The Facts. Have a good look around.
If you would like to talk about your own experiences with mental health then start a new thread. Please feel free to join other threads and offer your support. Glad you took the plunge.
Mary

Hi White Rose!
Yes, I would like to become a psychologist or a guidance counsellor, both working with youth. Completing studies is a fantastic accomplishment! What was your course?
To be honest, I got quite overwhelmed by all the other threads, so I started my own. I might do a more through search for some threads similar to mine.
Sweet, I will delve a bit further into the site. Thanks for the advice!
Yeah, it' s a great new experience. Glad to be here.
From Gabstar77
