Every time I need to do something; anything; I feel down,
if I am going to sleep i feel relieved.
any effortful activity I avoid.
Everything is a burden.
Only sleeping makes me feel good.
Has always been this way.
A drive to avoid.

Welcome to Beyond Blue.
Thanx for coming here and providing your post – quite dot pointed and ‘to the point’ also.
What I can let you know first of all is, you are not alone with these feelings. This is what this mongrel illness does to us, to our thinking, to our life; it drains us during our waking hours and for the most part, sleep is a relief when it comes along. I’ve had these feelings a lot during my battle.
So the question is, how do we cope with this – how do we put mechanisms in place so we can make our ‘waking hours’ more manageable and ‘better’?
May I ask if you’ve already sought out any professional support, in the shape of seeing a gp? Remembering also that unfortunately, there are ‘some’ gp’s out there who may not handle mental health issues of patients as well as what could and should be done. And if this is something that has been experienced in the past, it can certainly have negative overtones for any future attempts. So I should stop now and just see whether you’ve been to a gp?
If you’re unsure, on this site, Beyond Blue have a list of gp’s that can be searched for; the thing with these ones is that they are all experienced in dealing with mental health issues and as such would be best able to diagnose and refer if need be to some counselling and/or possible medication as well.
One last thing, your last sentence, was that ‘A drive to avoid’, supposed to be ‘I drive to avoid’? Does that mean that when you’re in your car, it’s one of the few times that you feel “ok”? If that’s the case, that could be because while driving you need to be alert to surroundings and as such, your mind is occupied and not allowing the depressive thoughts to enter, and if that is the case, then that’s awesome that you’ve found that aspect.

Hi evilovinsky
As Neil has already mentioned, that is me/us in a nutshell. Sometimes the feelings are worse than other days. I find that when I really need to get things done, then the feelings become overwhelming, the guilt bears down and ... Yeah, not nice.
Interesting about the last sentence of your post. Not entirely sure about what you mean, but I certainly do a lot of driving to keep my mind of the things that I should be concerned about. Like Neil says, it keeps the mind occupied about other things.

sorry for the wait.
the last post is in regards to a 'personal' motivation.
not car driving.
Effort is perceived very big. even small things. so i avoid it all together.
Instead of task egagement; goal orientation;sense of accomplishement.
I get frustration, annoyance and have this 'just to get it over with' attitude.
So the motivation aka the drive is to avoiid.
