Recently I have started to lose interest of the sport I play, my grades, whether I'm getting enough sleep or eating healthily. I have been crying a lot more, feeling more cranky and like I want the world to go away. I am happy around my friends but a of late I a preferring to be alone more. Is there something wrong with me? Am I just going through a phase?

Hi there Eso-si-que-es
Welcome to Beyond Blue and might I say, extremely interesting name. I've been sitting here sounding your name out loud to try and see if I could work it out - but alas, me is not that clever.
By mentioning your grades, sounds like you're still in school, yeah? Or Uni?
Are you able to think back to an event or something that might have triggered why you're experiencing the feelings that you currently are?
It IS good news to read that you're happy around your friends and that you have friends as well.
You have mentioned that you're crying a lot more of late - again, can you think of a trigger for the sadness/the tears?
There is a test on this website - at least I think there is - that you can take, and if you tick enough boxes then there is potential that you may have a kind of mental health issue. So perhaps give that a go, and also if you think that you have ticked a lot of those boxes, it might just be worth going to a GP to get some professional advice.
Would also like to hear back from you if feel ok to do so,
Kind regards
Neil

dear Eso-si-que-es, as Neil has suggested I would do the test, but from you have said it does sound as though you do have depression.
Sometimes when we are around our friends we tend to put on a fake happy face, to give the intention that all is well, when in fact it's not.
The loss of interest of any thing that we once enjoyed, whether it's sport or enjoying our hobbies is a different indication that depression has now got you, plus the fact that you now enjoy being alone and that you are crying all add to having depression.
It would be a good idea to go and see your doctor who will also confirm that you may have depression, and if so will start by giving you antidepressants, plus organise 10 free visits to a counsellor who would be a psychiatrist or a psychologist.
Please get back to us. Geoff.
