Hey everyone! My name is Sammi and I'm 18 years old

never done anything like this before but I'm really excited to be here 🙂

iv suffered from depression and anxiety since a very young age due to many traumatic events, Iv had many ups and downs through out my life. Including multiple suicide attempts, social isolation, self hatred ect ect.

Its been an  incredibly  hard journey but I wouldn't change a thing as it has shaped me to be the person I am today! And even though Iv got a long way to go I'm on a road to recovery and I can't wait to chat to everyone on here and support and grow from you all xx

Dear Sammi

Hello and welcome to the forum. It's great to have you here and telling us your story.

Depression is a hard road to travel and we all know the horrors of that journey. It's good that you can get something positive from your journey and you are right, the journey makes us what we are. There is a great deal of information BB so I suggest you browse the site and see how much there is on here to help you along.

You may want to start another thread on the Depression forum as that way more people will see your post and respond, or alternatively write on the Young People forum. You are welcome to write on both of these forums as long as they are different topics.

Joining in other conversations is also a good thing to do. It's surprising how helping someone else gives you a lift. I hope you will be around for while.

Hi Sammi,

Welcome to the forum!

You have an awesome attitude. At 18, you possess a lot more depth of experience than many teens, and it sounds as though you are seeing the silver lining in your difficult past. Speaking of which, I'd recommend The Silver Linings Playbook if you haven't already seen it!

I recently turned 23, and I am in my last year of psychology at uni. I want to help young people with mental illness or disabilities once I finish. I've volunteered with children and teens who have intellectual disabilities and found that to be a great experience. I had anxiety throughout my teens and was hospitalised at 19, but recovered well thanks to my parents and outpatient nurse. Even though our past experiences are different, I understand what you mean when you say you don't regret past hardships because of how it has led to who you are today. I feel very much that way. It took a year or two for me to adopt this perspective, and I'm so glad I found it!

Feel free to tell us a little more about yourself, like what you do for fun and what you'd like to do in the future 🙂

Best wishes,

SM
