Hi, I am 12 and I have been the victim of bullying many times already.  At times, I have found this really hard to handle.Through the support of family and some amazing friends I have learned some good coping techniques.  They have helped me how to react and how to not take it personally - it's more about what is going on in the bully's life than about me not being a good enough person.  And the big thing that I learned is that it happens a lot - I wasn't the only person who was being bullied.  Knowing that other people had gone through the same thing was very comforting.

I see way too many kids who are self harming and even know two who have committed suicide recently because of bullying, particularly because of bullying on social media.

I decided that I would dedicate a song and a music video to give support to people who have been and are being bullied, by letting them know that it can happen to anyone, but that you can overcome it.

Hi Georgina, welcome to Beyond Blue forums

I read you post twice. I'm amazed at your insight, your ability to adapt to what others advise you to do. Many listen but dont transform so they dont move through it and suffer all their lives because of this barrier they have.

You might not believe this but I can see clearly that your future will be in the field of assisting others in life- be it counsellor, teacher etc. Maybe in a few short years you could be a Beyond Blue champion volunteer like myself.

Whatever you do please continue. Well done

Bullying is a bit like race discrimination in that society around the world condemns it to the point whereby it is frowned upon heavily. Bullying hasnt got to its peak yet but it will. About 10-15 years time bullying others will be seen as so bad it will make headlines. Until then on a personal basis we can frown away and also support the victims.

Hi Georgina,

Thank you so very much for your wonderful message! I am so very sorry that you have been the victim of bullying and that at such a tender age you have had to come to terms with suicide and the thought of people self harming.

It is comforting to know that you have been wisely counselled and taught how to deal with bullying and that you have supportive family and friends.

As Tony has mentioned, as you feel so passionate at bullying, you may find that you might want to desire to help others now and in the future.

We are never too old or too young to make a difference.

Thank you once again for sharing your amazing insight and experience . There have been so many posts here at BB relating to bullying, not just in school but in the work place as well.

People of all ages can gain from your wisdom. Keep strong and positive!

Cheers for now from Mrs. Dools

Hi Georgina,

I am a 22 year old female, and I wish I had your insight at the age of 12! You seem really intelligent and mature for your age 🙂 It's great that you are rising above the bullying, and have sought help from people you trust. I hope you are no longer being bullied, as you don't deserve this.

What you've said about bullies having their own underlying issues and insecurities is very true. I'm really interested in psychology and mental health. I am in my second year of a psychology degree at university. Maybe when you get to Year 11 or 12, you'll be able to study psychology as a subject! My school didn't have this as an option, but maybe yours does, or will. 🙂

I hope you are enjoying school now.

Take care,

SM
