I'm 17 years old and around this time last year I was clinically depressed. I attended therapy for about 4 months however didn't find this useful and stopped it altogether. After this I moved on from my ex boyfriend and moved out of my mums house where the problems were just before Christmas. i was starting to feel better everyday
for 2 months now I've started feeling alone and emotional often. I feel like I'm beginning to rely more on my new boyfriend to feel happy. I feel most of my time is spent at college studying or working at weekends. I've recently started taking the contraceptive pill too. Is there any advice you could give me?
thanks,
Lauren

Hi LL, welcome again,
Depression is usually a roller coaster- up, down, up etc. The biggest step you can take on the rocky path is to 1/ accept you have to manage this mentally crippling state and 2/ Return to your GP often so he/she can monitor your moods and treat them.
Acceptance- Please google this thread "Topic: Depression, a ship on the high seas- beyondblue"
Those two steps are of most importance. But also you'll need to accept that others wont or cant understand your illness. For this please google- "Topic: they just wont understand-why?- beyondblue"
When you feel you are falling into depression it is hard to avoid it. But there are some ideas in my thread (google) "Topic: you are sliding, what can you do?- beyondblue"
At your age you begin to realise how many vast personalities are out there. Everyone is different. This can lead you to low confidence about yourself. If this is the case you'll need to do some soul searching and begin to love yourself. Remember, there are many people in history that have had mental illnesses. Churchill, Van Gogh...you only have to google "famous people with bipolar" and so on. This is covered in the thread "Topic: depression, is there any positive?- beyondblue"
That's a lot of reading. At your age though you can learn easier than when older as you cant teach an old dog new tricks as they say. There are hundreds of threads here that you could look up say one or two a night to learn more. Your growing knowledge on this topic will eventually be so vast you'll be reaching out to friends that fall victim to depression. That giving feeling is priceless..

Like White Knight and Elizabeth mentioned....Please try to get your GP involved here on a regular basis...They can be a great help and also provides you with someone to vent to....So very important for you right now...
Alone and emotional can be sad feelings Lauren but they are still only 'feelings' Like a cloud they do pass...
