What to do. Feeling overwhelmed.

Hi, I have no idea where or how to start solving my problems, I can't stop spending all my money every time I get paid and it's gotten so bad I'm in debt to pretty much everyone I know and have a short term loan, I've been off work for 3 days with depression because I just got my fortnightly pay and it was all gone by the next day.

I'm having trouble not drinking which is making it worse. I don't have any sick leave left so won't get paid. Need to get a medical certificate but anxiety is stopping me leaving the house.

I also smoke pot and have a massive debt there that I'm unable to pay, no more loans available and gotta get through somehow but no idea where to start...

Hi Betterlife.

im sorry to hear you are having trouble and I hope it’s all upward from here.

Is there someone you can trust that can help you with your money? Hold it for you and help you sort out debts.

Maybe try seeing if you can get a doctor to your house to see you. You can address your drinking with them as well if you feel comfortable.

i hope this gives you a start.

You’ve got this.

hello Betterlife, I've just seen your post and I'm so sorry to know of your circumstances because you're in a difficult position here.

There are a few issues that you have to address which you have mentioned, so to self medicate using alcohol and smoking pot is only putting a bandaid on your situation, because the next day it will still be there, this is how the cycle begins, to drink and smoke to pretend it is all OK.

What you need to do is work out how much money you need per week, to pay for rent, utilities, food, and 'just in case' where you can have money to access if you need it and put the rest into a Xmas account, or an account where two signatures need to be signed before money is withdrawn and get your work to put that money into the Xmas a/c when you know how much you will need.

This can be done but it needs a little determination.

With your depression and anxiety will require you to contact your doctor and ask them if they do house calls, or perhaps there maybe someone who goes out for you that can come with you to an appointment, because once all of this can be handled with medication and counselling then your alcohol/smoking intake may ease off. Geoff.
