There are some great and creative names being used on beyond blue. I am really interested in getting to know some of the stories behind them and getting to know you the process.
I thought I'd introduce myself through explaining my name.
Gruffudd.
It is Welsh and pronounced Griffith. I have found a sense of place and belonging in my Welsh background - it has always been there but I never really owned it or thought much of it until the last couple of years. Exploring it has helped me learn about my dad, and answered some of the questions about him like why he thinks and does some things. It is not my name, rather a family name from my grandmother's side. She was perhaps the biggest influence growing up, she had us kids after school and taught the fine traditions of making welsh cakes and was just the best listener, drank litres of tea.

Hi,
i love your name by the way!
Bluey was a nickname given to me by a really great friend and workmate years ago, she used to nickname everyone, she called me that because my real name is Skye.
The moon part is also a nickname. A step father I had years ago started it, but my husband used to call me it too
both names remind me of happy times!

Hi Gruffudd,
That's interesting about your Welsh name. I had no idea.
Why White Knight? Well it has nothing to do with my extraordinary powers. It was chosen purely because I felt due to my age (59 now, 57 when joined BB), my personal experiences with mental illness of my own and other people I knew, in fact all of my experiences that would combine to allow me to help others. I felt that White Knight was a symbol of someone that- yes I have many struggles still in day to day life like many of us, but I can help those with issues that cant see clearly the way forward.
A white knight is an ultra positive person that would always defeat anything black, the black knight of evil or the black dog of depression.
There is a "white knight" within all of us but many people don't realise it. I've found it, I've embraced it and ran with it. No challenge will ever tip me over the edge again since 1996 when my first marriage fell apart and I contemplated ending my life. Thankfully I thought of my kids (then 7 and 4yo) and decided a part time dad was better than no dad at all.
Now they are 22 and 26yo. Life, when the chips are down we don't think about how it is only temporary, that it wont be bad all the time, we can change things so we are happier....and we should never give up. Ever.
Hence the name "White Knight"
Thanks for asking
Tony WK

All great names. And an interesting topic for discussion - I like it.
There is nothing mysterious, exotic or imaginative about the name I have given myself, that of Sherie. It is actually the name my Mum and Dad was going to call me when I was born. However when she told the nurses they asked "Sweet or Dry"? Anyway she changed her mind and my real name is actually a Welsh name, which I'm not ready to divulge. There is some Welsh blood in my heritage somewhere. Along with English and Irish. So hey, Gruffold, maybe we're related? xx

I love this thread! Love all the meaning in your names! Strong meanings for strong people!
yggy was my first online nickname, many years ago. It comes from Yggdrasil, a giant ash tree from the Norse mythology. It reminds me that I have strong roots and that I am grounded. It reminds me that I can reach for the sky. It reminds me that there are many branches. It reminds me that I can recover if I get damaged even if I will never look the same. There are ao many reasons. Trees are wonderful examples of resilience and carriers of memories.
Have a great day, Yggy

Interesting topic Gruffudd,
Mine is a name that I've never used. It's a name that I was called in high school by a kid when he was teasing me. It's part of my surname. The kid had a lisp so I guess mine is pronounced Latth. He would touch me on the face like he was slapping me while I was trying to stop him he'd be saying "Hey Latth, Hey Latth"
I guess I've used it here because that reminds me of something that was upsetting, but being here is something that provides me strength and purpose. My strength and purpose help me overcome the upset.
Paul

Great thread Gruffud
Whilst I am not a religious person I do believe in energy that we ourselves have, like the force in Star Wars that we have and is only as powerful as our belief in it. Going through this journey with anxiety and other crippling problems I started studying different things. About a year ago I was looking into the law of attraction and came across a youtube video about a very well known verse in the bible where Moses came across a tree burning in the field and god asked him to go forth and tell the the Israelites to let the people free, Moses asked who should I say sent me, what is your name he replied "I am that, I am" and when I was changing my negative thoughts including my self talk and how I talk about myself I started saying, I am strong, I am helpful, I am grateful, I am creative as a way of replacing my thoughts at nights that would be negative and spark something off that would cause me to lay awake for hours being negative. The universe is made up of atoms, energy and it all is the same thing the ocean, trees, cars, houses and us is all the same thing when I look at things I can say I am that, I am! It changed my mood and eventually tipped the scales having a more positive mood than negative thus reducing stress and anxiety - so thats why I choose this one thanks Az
