Hi folks, newbie here wanting to hear from anyone that has been or is in a similar issue to what im feeling. I have been in a new work industry now for almost 2 years now (previously a hairdresser 22yrs) and when i started i obviously started at the bottom not knowing anything and as time progressed i gained new skills and grew, however the past 3 months have i felt as though i have slipped further backwards to what i was when i started to the point where i have talked myself into I'm gin to enter work each day only to be told i will be fired. I have had a meeting with my 2 supervisors that have constantly told me in a one on one meeting that is not true and to stop thinking thoughts like that, but how to i do this, i love the job and want to keep it but how do I stop stressing myself to the point where i do think of self-worth and prove to the company I am a good employee

Hi Justin,
has something changed either in the workplace or in your personal life to make you feel this way? You mentioned you had been in the new career for 2 years but had been feeling like this for 3 months.
Have you tried making a list of all of your accomplishments during the last 2 years? They don’t even need to be massive accomplishments, just small little things that you’ve done, learnt, achieved, etc. A good way to do this is by using the CAR method. C = Circumstance (so describe the situation) A = Actuon (describe the action or task you undertook) and R = Result (what was the outcome).
I’m sure that you have achieved lots of little things over the last 2 years. It’s always good to reflect on this as it’s easy to forget sometimes. It might be just the reminder you need to see all of your success so far. Changing careers is hard! It takes courage to start over again.
I’m glad you’ve spoken to your supervisors. Perhaps you could ask for some mentoring or coaching from them (or someone else either inside or outside of the organisation) to help you through this and to continue being productive. Or is there any projects or different tasks you could put your hand up for.
keep believing in yourself, you got this!! 🙂
