I have let it all get to me and have started talking to a psychologist.I have been working at a job that has frustrated the hell out of me and caused me such worry that I cannot go back to sleep after waking around 3am everyday.I have tried breathing, yoga, watching tv,reading and nothing keeps the worry out of my head. It's not just work now though,I have scary thoughts about the future and (ridiculously) the past.Ihave taken time off work to ease that part of the worry (only today so far) but I feel like I have let them down by doing so.My worst fear at the moment stems from fact that my wife is also a victim of all these feelings for the same reasons (starting with work) and she is seeing a psycohologist too and I'm worried that I will drag her down with me.She says don't worry about her but it's hard not to.

Hi Nick welcome

Sorry you're not in a good place & your wife either

This job that's frustrating you & seems to really be pulling you down, do you think taking leave for a longer period of time could help

Good you're seeing a psychologist I hope they can help you both through these hard times

Do you know specifically what it is that's pulling you down, it's easier to hopefully find ways of working through if so

I imagine your energy wouldn't be booming with those horrid waking hrs, I was going to ask if you exercise at all, it can be a great stress release & also help with sleep

Some people here have been finding meditation ph apps helpful for sleep, I think ones called smiling minds another calming type of mind distraction, I know you've tried various things which work for some not others, guided meditation might be worth a try if not sleep could help with relaxing

Something I've been finding helpful is firm hard no nonsense self talk not necessarily out loud just internal, seems to kick in logical thinking patterns, I basically say "no not having this its just my mind wanting to pull me down" helps to snap outta unwanted rubbish thoughts by firmly dismissing them

I hope your lives become easier & please feel free to talk anytime

Best to both ☺

hi Nick, I too am so sorry that you have to go through this, just as I am for your wife but pleased you are both seeing a psychologist.

This worry and those scary thoughts must be what you what you obviously want to stop and trying to suppress them could be worse than thinking them.

They may also be obsessive, because you may always think negatively, so ask your psych whether they could be intrusive thoughts because that may give them more information to work on to help you overcome this. Geoff.

Thanks Geoff,I am seeing the Psychologist today and will share everything with him and hopefully we can work out how I can deal with the situation I am in.
