Hello, I am a 44 year old male living in perths southern suburbs.1st time at being on this site. I have been on anti depressant medication for about 5 years now. I have a wife and adult children but I am feeling very lonely at times and my drinking is out of control. I am originally from Melbourne and don't really have any friends outside of work. I am very keen to know if there is any social groups around which are alcohol free environments which I could maybe attend and meet new people that don't want to spend all their time drinking. Need to get some sort of life back. Don't really know where I belong at times. I am also currently trying to source some professional help for alcoholism.

First of all, congratulations on getting help for your drinking, and good luck! I'm sure you've heard that it's not good for depression.

I'm in Adelaide, so not sure about activities, but maybe contact your local council and see what community centres offer, they have some weekend groups and things, depending on your work hours. They'd be alcohol free, I'd imagine.

Let us know how you go with things, being fairly new here myself, I can tell you that the people here are pretty supportive and non judgemental 🙂

Blw, welcome and really well done.

How about some form if social sport? Volleyball, table tennis, badminton, line dancing?

Do you like boating? Fremantle might have boat owners willing to take on a free willing crew member.

Footy? The dockers or eagles cheer squad would like more help and a great place to meet others.

Good luck.
