New member - mum in her 40's

Hi,

I am a mum in her (early) 40's trying to navigate my way again through the troughs of depression. I have joined as I am looking for other parents in a similar boat to me (I have two children under 8), how they get through every day as a family, what support networks you have and just people who understand what depression and anxiety is like.

I have a great husband and friends who try to understand, but they just don't get it.

Thanks 🙂

Hi georgio,

welcome to this friendly and supportive forum.

I was in your position years a go but I did not have a supportive husband . Tony has given you helpful suggestions.

found if I was honest with my female friends I found that even though they may not have depression they could relate to some of my feelings and frustrations.

You are not alone as many reading your post will relate to you.

here maybe a parents group at your local health centre or at a womens health centre.

Sometimes something simple as a friend bringing a casserole helps and being able to ask for help if you need a break instead of smiling and saying everything is fine.

Thanks for your post and feel free to post here when you like.

Hello Georgieo, thanks for coming to the site.

I'm sorry for how you are feeling but totally understand, as I too was in the same position a few years ago and struggled, just like you are so we want to help you as much as can.

One way of doing this is to make a comment on this site as often as you want to, that's how we can learn more about your situation and what's going on, another often is to see your GP and they may refer you onto a psychologist on a mental health plan, which entitles to 10 Medicare paid sessions with a psych.

You can also talk with counsellors if you contact 1800RESPECT, 1800 737 732, 24 hours a day, plus if you can please click on 'Get Support' at the top of this page, scroll down until you see 'Publications to download or order', this is a small booklet that answers a lot of questions, I only think this would help your husbands and friends begin to learn about depression.

There maybe answers that help you as well, but please get in touch with us.

Best wishes.

Geoff.
