hi all,

Nice to meet you.

I'm male in my 40's. was sexually abused by two women when I was a very young kid. I am what people would call a "high achiever" but all I have been that just trying for years is to keep my brain so busy. I have been using alcohol since I can remember to numb my brain,  I have zero social skills, I can't talk to women because I am scared, not just because I was sexually abused by two female but because my mother was way too strict with me. I am married with an amazing family, three kids that are my whole life. nearly 7 years on therapy, by I really need someone to talk to.

Hi Pancho,

Welcome to the forums and thank you for having the bravery to share your story. We’re so sorry to hear you’re going through a tough time right now.  It sounds like you’re dealing with a lot, you have a lot of strength in sharing. We're glad you have shared here, trauma can effect many different areas of our lives and it's important you have someone to talk to.

You can talk to Blue Knot about this on 1300 657 380, every day between 9am-5pm (AEST). Their counsellors work with people who have experienced complex trauma. They also have some resources on their website which could be useful to visit, particularly the pages on Survivors Self Care.

You mention using alcohol to numb yourself which is not uncommon, we're glad you recognise this as often alcohol provides an 'escape' from difficult feelings, as well as keeping busy which you also mention. Some other really good people to discuss this with are our friends at Counselling Online on (02) 9361 8000 or online: https://www.counsellingonline.org.au/ if you are looking to reduce your alcohol intake.

You can also talk to the lovely Beyond Blue counsellors about this at any time on 1300 22 4636, or via our webchat.

Thank you again for your courage and strength in sharing your story and please know that you are not alone, you are a survivor and have persevered through a lot to get to this point.

Kind regards,

Sophie M
